[Surgical tactics in pathological pneumothorax].

Thoracoscopy is believed by the author to be used in pathological pneumothorax to diagnose bullous disease of the lungs which is considered to be an indication for thoracotomy and operation on lungs and pleura. Radical operations were made on 46 patients. No complications and recurrences were noted.

[Treatment of staphylococcal lung destruction in children].

The author has analyzed results of the treatment of 338 children with staphylococcal destruction of lungs. A conclusion is made that the puncture method of treatment is indicated in mild forms of the disease and in secondary serous pleuritis. Drainage of the pleural cavity is indicated for patients with empyema of the pleural cavity or pneumothorax. In 13 children (3,8 %) decortication of the lung was performed with its thrifty resection and suturing of the bronchial fistula. Lethality was 5,8 %.

[Lung scanning in acute and chronic diseases].

Sixty five patients with acute and chronic abscesses of the lungs were examined. Disturbances of the capillary blood flow in the lungs were found to be different at different phases of the disease. In chronic abscesses the area of the lung with the disturbed capillary blood flow was found to be larger than that determined roentgenologically. A combination of radiological, bronchological examination with scanning of the lungs is considered to be expedient.

[Role of scanning in the diagnosis of lung developmental defects].

Scanning of the lungs was fulfilled by the perfusion method in 24 patients with lung malformations (polycystic hypoplasia, pulmonary cysts, Zivert--Kartagener's triad, tracheobronchomegalia). It has been established that scanning of the lungs equally with other methods of examination makes it possible to estimate the degree and extension of the lung damage in the congenital lung pathology. The authors believe this fact to determine the methods of treatment of such patients.
