With microfotos from her field of work, cytology, the author demonstrates that normal cells deforming into malignant growth change their "expression", too. Trained by means of the "non-figurative" art of our century and by interpretation of the values and significance of their expression of the perception of deformation in case of malignant growth is intensified.
A case of pernicious anaemia is described in which the diagnosis of gastric cancer in absence of stomach complaints was established by gastric lavage cytology. A small polypous lesion was detected by gastrotomy and cytologic print smears revealed cancer cells. The value of intraoperative gastric cytology is pointed out. Close cooperation of surgeon, pathologist and cytologist is mandatory.

The presence of eosinophilic granulocytes in the gastrocytogram requires examination is not specific and has to be clarified by repeated examinations. The patient should be kept under constant gastrocytologic control, because in certain cases the appearance of eosinophilic granulocytes may accompany cancer.
