[A method for intermittent hypoxic exposures in the combined treatment of bronchial asthma patients].

The method of intermittent increasing normobaric isocapnic hypoxia was used for the treatment of bronchial asthma. The parameters of respiration, metabolism, free-radical processes and immune system were monitored before and after training. The therapeutic diagnostic complex "Hypotron" (Ukraine), which allowed to determine the individual reactivity of the patient's respiratory system, tolerance to hypoxia, and to choose an optimal program of treatment, was used. The hypoxic training resulted in considerable increase of lung vital capacity, maximal ventilation and forced expired velocity. Normalization of initially increased free radical processes, accompanied by a decrease in the lipid peroxidation products was observed. The hypoxic training positively influenced specific and nonspecific immunological status, and appeared to be associated with a far better stimulation of lymphocytes and neutrophils.

[The effect of taurine on the activity of transport ATPases and of energy metabolism enzymes in different tissues of rats with acute hypoxic hypoxia].

The membrane activity of Na+, K(+)-ATPase, Mg2+, Ca(2+)-ATPase, mitochondrial NAD-isocitrate dehydrogenase, mitochondrial and cytosolic L-glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase was determined in the liver and brain of Wistar rats under acute hypoxic hypoxia against the background of preventive taurine administration. It was shown that preliminary taurine treatment prevented a decrease of hypoxia in activity of Na+. K(+)-ATPase and mitochondrial calcium-dependent enzymes, mostly in the liver. Changes in the intracellular calcium content and biomembrane structure have been discussed as the mechanisms of the taurine effect on the enzymes' activity.

[Effect of ionol on the activity of oxidative enzymes and ultrastructure of myocardial hematoparenchymatous barrier in hypoxic hypoxia].

Experiments were conducted on 112 adult male Wistar rats to study the effect of preliminary ionol administration on the activity of oxidation enzymes and ultrastructure of the hematoparenchymatous barrier (HPB) in the myocardium in acute and prolonged hypoxic hypoxia. It is shown that ionol was conducive to minimal damage of HPB ultrastructures in hypoxia and had a positive effect on oxidation metabolism of the myocardium: removed inhibition of isocitrate and malate dehydrogenase, activated the key enzymes of transport of reduction equivalents in the mitochondria.

[Activity of neutral peptide hydrolases and oxidative enzymes in the myocardium and blood during hypoxic hypoxia].

The citric cycle dehydrogenases and neutral peptide hydrolases (NPH) activity was determined in the myocardium and blood serum of Wistar rats under acute and prolonged hypoxic hypoxia. It was shown that the NPH activity and the activity of the most oxidative enzymes change in the same direction during adaptation to the high-altitude conditions. The role of the NPH in the oxidative metabolism reconstruction under acute and chronic hypoxia was discussed.

Adaptation, Physiological↗

[Oxygen utilization by muscle tissue of the dolphin Phocaena phocaena].

Studies have been made on the oxygen consumption in different parts of the cardiac muscle, as well as in deep and subcutaneous muscles of the porpoise Phocaena phocaena. It was shown that oxygen consumption in the heart (especially in the left ventricle) is higher than in skeletal muscles. The intensity of tissue respiration of deep body muscles is approximately 4 times higher than that of subcutaneous ones. Experimental and predicted data were compared. It was suggested that the intensity of oxygen consumption in the skeletal muscles of the porpoise is not uniform during the respiratory cycle.

[Enzymatic markers of cell membranes in rats during adaptation to hypoxic hypoxia].

The activities of Na+, K(+)-ATPase and 5'-nucleotidase of the plasma membranes, Ca++, Mg(++)-ATPase of the sarcoplasmic reticulum, mitochondrial cytochrome C-oxidase and succinate dehydrogenase were investigated in the brain, liver and gastrocnemius muscle of Wistar rats at various terms of adaptation to hypoxic hypobaric intermittent hypoxia. An increase in the activity of Na+, K(+)-ATPase and mitochondrial enzymes (mostly in the liver) as well as in the activity of Ca++, Mg(++)-ATPase in the skeletal muscle beginning from 14 days of adaptation have been shown. Starting with the same term the authors have registered the less marked changes of the enzymic markers of cell membranes in adapted rats under additional acute and severe hypoxic test when compared to unadapted animals. Possible changes in the regulation of membrane-bound enzyme activity during the process of adaptation to hypoxic hypoxia have been discussed.

[Capillarization of the muscular tissue of the Black Sea dolphin Phocaena phocaena].

Studies have been made on morphological and diffusion parameters of capillaries in cardiac and skeletal muscles of the dolphin P. phocaena. As compared to that in terrestrial mammals, the degree of capillarization of muscle tissue in the dolphin was found to be higher. Higher density of capillaries, as well as shorter radii of diffusion and smaller volumes of tissue cylinders, are responsible for more intensive supply of oxygen per tissue volume unit in dolphins.
