[Biomedical research on a concentrate of carotenoids made from the North Atlantic sea cucumber Cucumaria frondosa].

Possibility of utilizing a carotenoid concentrate (CC) extracted from Cucumaria frondosa of the North Atlantic in foodstuffs and medicinal and prophylactic diet is considered. A complex of experimental studies including physiological, biochemical and morphological examinations has found that addition of CC in physiological doses to a diet of warm-blooded animals during 12 months causes no side effects. Utilization of CC in medicinal and prophylactic dietary nutrition may be beneficial.

[The cytogenetic indices of participants in the cleanup of the aftermath of the accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station and their correction].

An analysis was performed of cytogenetic homeostasis in liquidators of the Chernobyl accident after-effects, which led to the belief that if the above contingent of subjects continue living in large industrial regions characterized by high levels of environmental contamination with industrial waste, such as that formed in the chemical, by-product coke, and metallurgical industries, they will not dispel disorders of the cytogenetic homeostasis (chromosomal and chromatic aberrations), which fact is believed to be due to the inhibition of the processes of elimination of somatic cells with a faulty genotype. Proposed for the correction of cytogenetic disorders are such options as a complex of antioxidants and intravascular laser irradiation of blood, that will, we believe, help in restoring the cytogenetic homeostasis.

[Effect of catamine AB on the generative function and chromosome apparatus of the bone marrow cells in white rats].

In a chronic experiment (6 months) performed on non-inbred white rats effect of cationic superficially active substance catamin AB on the structure and function of male and female gonads, state of the offspring and on the chromosome apparatus of the bone marrow cells has been studied. The preparation is intragastrically injected in doses 10, 1, 0.1 mg/kg. Catamin AB in the dose of 10 mg/kg produces an essential decrease in the specific mass of the testes, reduce in the spermatogenic index, increase in the canaliculi number with exfoliated epithelium, lowered mobility and diminished amount of alive spermatozoa. In the ovary amount of mature follicles becomes less and the number of atresic corpuscles and atresing follicles rises; plethora of the medullary substance occurs in the organ with signs of stasis in the venous bed. In the dose 1 mg/kg catamin AB results in less pronounced changes in the testes and does not produce any pathological disturbances in the ovaries. The preparation does not influence on mating in the test animals, but in the dose 10 mg/kg results in a decreasing fertility because of pre- and postimplantational death of embryos. The changes mentioned are connected with a total toxical effect of the preparation. Catamin AB does not possess any mutagenic effect in the doses tested.

[Morphofunctional status of the lysosomal-segregation apparatus of rat hepatocytes at different stages of ontogeny].

The influence of adrenaline and insuline on the morpho-functional state of the lysosome-segregation apparatus of rat hepatocytes was studied in ante- and postnatal periods of life. Using the vital staining of hepatocyte squash preparations, differences in the reaction of the lysosome-segregation apparatus towards a stabilizator (adrenaline) or a labilizator (insulin) was revealed at different stages of ontogenesis.
