The sequelae of gastrectomy are well-known. This paper describes a complicated clinical course which occurred eight years after partial gastrectomy. Initial features included marked weight loss, anaemia, multiple lung and liver abscesses, and cholestatic jaundice. Acalculous cholecystitis with a mucocele of the gallbladder developed later. We emphasise the value of total parenteral nutrition in supporting such critically ill patients.
