[Bilateral exclusion of the duodenum in reconstructive surgery of the stomach].

The article analyses the results of modified gastric resection after Roux with bilateral exclusion of the duodenum in 13 patients with disease of an operated stomach. The operations were performed for peptic ulcer of the gastroenteroanastomosis in 5 patients, for biliary reflux gastritis in 3, and for reflux gastritis and coexistent Stages II-III dumping syndrome in 5 patients. The outcomes of treatment were studied in follow-up periods of up to 3 years. The results were good in 10 patients, satisfactory in 2, and poor in 1 patient. Recurrent peptic ulcers were not encountered. The clinical picture of biliary reflux gastritis was completely relieved in all of the 8 patients. The dumping syndrome phenomena were arrested in 2 patients and relieved significantly in another 2.

[Gastric motility and post-gastrectomy dumping syndrome].

A direct relationship was revealed between disorders of gastric motility before the operation and the frequency and severity of the post-gastrectomy dumping syndrome in patients with peptic ulcer. The level of increase in the frequency and amplitude of the contractions and the basal tonus of the gastric stump may serve as an objective criterion for establishing the severity of the dumping syndrome. Patients with an initial hyperkinetic type of motility are predisposed to the dumping syndrome, which must be borne in mind in choosing a variant of the operation and the method for creating the gastrointestinal anastomosis.

[DNA and RNA synthesis in isolated nuclei of rat skeletal muscle fibers following hypokinesia].

Incorporation of labelled nucleotides [3H] UTP and [3] TTP revealed the intensity of DNA and RNA synthesis in the skeletal muscle nuclei in vitro in the male rats of Wistar line after 22-day immobilization. The RNA biosynthesis (the intensity of transcription) considerably diminished in the skeletal muscle nuclei of hypokinetic rats (by 1.8 times). No differences developed in the actinomycin D depression of r-RNA and s-RNA synthesis. The DNA biosynthesis (the intensity of replication) also decreased. The depression of DNA and RNA biosynthesis seems to be the main reason of the decreased intensity of protein synthesis in the rat skeletal muscle during hypodynamia.

[Biochemical changes in skeletal muscles during hypokinesia and possible means for counteracting them].

The changes in the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, water and minerals as well as in the acitvity of enzymes of skeletal muscles during hypokinesia are discussed. The methods used to reverse metabolic disorders in skeletal muscles are recommended and evaluated. Among the suggested methods-the diet with predominant proteins, hypoxia, anabolic steroids and physical exercises-the latter seem to be most promising.
