[The emotional assessment by test subjects of short musical fragments].

Emotional estimation of 96 short (2-5 s) musical fragments was studied in 6 healthy subjects. Fragments were scored on a 5-point scale. Statistically significant difference in estimations of specific musical fragments (positive, negative, or indifferent) was found.

[Frequency following response to cochlear nuclei in cats to polycomponent sonic signals].

Under chloralose-urethane anaesthesia, by means of spectrograms and dynamic spectrograms studies have been made on frequency following response (FFR) in the cochlear nuclei of cats evoked by sonic stimulation. It was shown that FFR readily reproduces frequencies of the acoustic spectrum of separate tones and two-tonal harmonic complexes (the upper reproduced frequency in FFR - 6.0-6.5 kc/sec). The main deteils of the acoustic spectrum of the sounds of speech are also easily reproduced in FFR. Combination tones were observed in FFR during application of two-tonal harmonic complexes. The first harmonic is inhibited in FFR when combined with higher ones (the fifth or the sixth) or at certain phase angle between the first and the second harmonics ("doubling" phenomenon).

[Tendencies in auditory physiology].

Main tendencies in studying of human and animals auditory system with psychoacoustical and electrophysiologycal methods are considered. Concerning psychoacoustical studies some basic data are presented as well as contemporary tendencies in hearing physiology in analysis of the intensity, frequency, temporal characteristics of the sound signals and data related to such phenomena as masking and adaptation. Data concerning directional hearing are presented in detail as a basis of auditory virtual reality. In electrophysiological studies of the auditory system detailed analysis of mapping in auditory centers and mechanisms concerning localization of unmoved and moving auditory stimuli was performed. Special attempt was paid to consider the reflection of different types of auditory signals in human evoked potentials.

[Perception of short musical fragments by hypomaniac patients].

Emotional assessment of short fragments from pieces of chamber music was studied in patients in steady elated mood (hypomaniac). Six fragments, assessed by healthy subjects as emotionally positive, neutral or negative were used. The examined subjects were shown to be capable for an emotional assessment of the musical fragments. The most pronounced difference of the examined patients from healthy subjects and depressive patients examined earlier was the predominance of neutral assessments in hypomaniacs.
