[Trace and anxiety of nursing mothers with insufficient and normal breast feeding indicators].

The objective of this study was to identify and compare the trace and the anxiety state on the 10th day postpartum and the anxiety state on the 30th day postpartum of primiparous and multiparous nursing mothers who present insufficient breast feeding indicators and nursing mothers with normal breast feeding, in order to verify the possible relationships between the anxiety state of the nursing mothers in those two moments with the insufficient breast feeding indicators presented. This is an exploratory and descriptive study, whose data has been gotten from 168 nursing mothers and their children by means of interviews in nursing consultations in the 10th and 30th day postpartum. The results obtained showed that primiparous and multiparous with insufficient breast feeding and primiparous with normal lactation presented higher anxiety state trace than the anxiety state on the 10th and 30th day postpartum. There was remission of the maternal signals of anxiety with the passing of time, which may be caused by the correction of the breast feeding technique and support to the nursing mothers.

[Doctoring interunits in nursing program: 21 years building science].

The Doctoring Interunits in Nursing Program was the first created in Latin America and has titled 290 nurses until the second semester of 2004. This study presents some thesis characteristics upheld in the program, focusing the thematic areas and research methods used. The summaries of 287 theses supported until the first semester of 2004, have been analyzed. The most investigated fields up to now were: Children, Woman, Adult/ Elderly Health and Education. The quantitative research method predominated until the end of the 80's, since then an intense production of qualitative method researches started to occur. Still in the first decade of the program, the themes started to talk about the aspects that connect the practice of nursing to the political and social contexts, converging to the current program's paradigmatic axis: "Theoretical, philosophical, historical bases of knowledge and of the nursing practice."

[Non verbal communication: a contribution to breastfeeding counseling].

The "Course on Breastfeeding Counseling", elaborated and implemented by the United Nation's Children's Emergency Fund-UNICEF in partnership with the World Health Organization-WHO, represents one of the most important initiatives towards the valorization of women as breastfeeding agents. With a view to understanding and facilitating the application of the nonverbal communication skills this course intends to develop among professionals, this study aims to organize the theoretical frameworks that will support the teaching of Listening and Learning Skills--1--"Use of non verbal communication", considering the concepts of human communication found in different authors. We found out that the skills of the course are centered in techniques only directed at the professional's attitudes. However, it is necessary to pay attention to women's nonverbal signs, as they reflect their emotions. These signs can indicate the difficulties women are facing, their interpretations regarding the interaction elements in their context and, often, they are indicative of how they will direct the breastfeeding process.
