[Characteristics of the reactions of popliteal and medial iliac lymph nodes after plastic surgery of the sciatic nerve defect using cryopreserved allogeneic transplant].

Histologically and morphometrically structural transformations in the popliteal and iliac medial lymph nodes have been studied in dogs at plasty of their ischiatic nerve by means of a cryopreserved allotransplant. In one week after the operation in the popliteal and in one month in the iliac nodes appear and then develop further certain reactions in B-dependent areas. In 4-12 weeks after the nerve transplantation certain statistically significant changes are noted in the thymus-dependent zone of the iliac medial lymph nodes. During first two weeks from the beginning of the experiment increase in the relative area of the popliteal lymph nodes sinuses is observed. The transformations described are interpreted as a response of the immune system to the nerve cut, and as a result of it--denervation of the crural tissues, disturbance of their nervous trophic, as well as--to transplantation of the allogeneic nervous trunk. The data obtained are in accordance with results of immunological investigations.

[The reinnervation of the gastrocnemius muscle following the plastic repair of a sciatic nerve defect with a cryopreserved allograft].

A correlation between electrophysiological and morphological indices during reinnervation of the gastrocnemius muscle in the experimental alloneuroplastics of the sciatic nerve defect by the cryopreserved graft was determined. Data obtained show that the alloneuroplastics can provide axon regeneration and restoration of the operated limb function.

[Surgical treatment of sequelae of nerve trunk injuries of the lower limbs].

The authors have analysed the results of surgical treatment of 63 patients with consequences of traumatic injuries of the nerves of the lower extremities. Characteristic peculiarities of the injuries of the nerves of the lower extremities are noted. The possibilities of reconstructive microsurgery in the treatment of severe traumatic lesions in this contingent of the patients are demonstrated.

[Ultrastructure of a sciatic nerve allograft preserved at an ultralow temperature].

In the experiment, performed on dogs ultrastructure of the ischiatic nerve allograft, preserved in liquid nitrogen (-196 degrees) has been studied. In 7 days after the operation in the transplanted piece of the nerve trunk certain phenomena, similar to the Wallerian degeneration are noted, while viability of neurilemma cells is preserved. Processes of second degeneration are mainly completed by the end of the first month after the operation. During this time active regeneration of nervous fibers is noted; it is accompanied with neutralization of the graft. The latter is mostly expressed in 6 months after the operation. The dynamics studied on ultramicroscopic rearrangements of the cryopreserved graft proves the previously obtained data on possibility of its use in clinics for substitution of defects in peripheral nerves.

[Microcirculatory bed of the injured sciatic nerve (experimental study)].

A morphometric, histochemical and electron microscopic investigation of the sciatic nerve hemomicrocirculatory bed was performed (on 45 dogs) after its small part had been resected and the cut end had been sutured microsurgically. During 2--4 weeks after the operation the microvessel reactions depend mainly on the trauma and the resulted processes of aseptic inflammation, the neural fibre degeneration and vascular denervation. Within the interval of 2--4 weeks up to 6-12 months after the nerve cutting, transformations in the hemomicrocirculatory bed play an important role in the energy and plastic ensurance of the regenerative neuroma elements and the adjoining parts of the nerve. Specific reactions of the peripheral nerve microvessels at their restoration should be taken into account when estimating time of surgical operations for neural trunks and elaborating some new neurosurgical approaches.

[The effect of para-aminomethylbenzoic acid (amben) on peripheral nerve regeneration].

Various injuries to the sciatic nerve were modelled in experiments on 60 rats and 27 dogs to study the effect of paraaminomethylbenzoic acid on its regeneration; the efficacy of amben was compared with that of other agents used widely for the treatment of injuries to nerves. It was found that amben acts on the connective tissue of the neural scar and creates favourable conditions for growth of axons from the central to the peripheral stump of the injured nerve and accelerated their maturation.
