[Genetic differentiation of the Mongolian population. Comparative analysis of the geographic distribution of biochemical markers of genes and restriction fragment length polymorphism of nuclear DNA in the Mongolian population].

The geographical distribution of the gene frequencies from loci: Hp, Tf, Gc, Pi, AcP1, GLO1, EsD, 6-PGD, PGM1 and RFLP's of the nuclear DNA of the loci HBG-2 (HindIII), HBB (AvaII), ApoB (XbaI), D7S8 (PstI), LDLR (HincII) and AT-3 was analysed in the Mongolian population. These data revealed the homogeneity of 18 local groups in Mongolia and extremely low genetic differences measured by GST. There was no differences in the average GST values between protein markers and nuclear DNA markers.

[Gene pool and gene geography of the USSR population].

Gene pool and gene geography are discussed from the point of view of their conceptual history beginning from the original concept of A.S. Serebrovskiĭ (1928). Difference between the present-day gene geography and gene geography of gene pool is accentuated: the former only represents a portion of the latter. Historical and territorial integrity of the USSR population gene pool, in conjunction with its huge diversity, is the main problem being analysed by various means of computerized genetic cartography. Coupled with the gene frequency mapping, following methods were also used: mapping of average heterozygosity, of interpopulation differentiation, of principal component scores and mapping of geographical trend for each mapped genetic parameter. The work is based on 100 allelic genes and haplotypes from 30 independent loci studied on the average in 225 local populations. Statistical analysis of gene geographical maps is based on 3975 nodes of regular cartographic net for the USSR territory. The wind rose of systematic changes in the USSR gene pool has three main geographic orientations: W-E, SW-NE and S-N. At the same time, there are only two main systematic forces of gene pool evolution: the force of social history with predominant W-E orientation and the force of natural history with predominant S-N orientation of their actions. The heterozygosity level of gene pool declines strictly in accordance with the resultant in the SW-NE direction.

[DNA polymorphism in the Mongolian population. Restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of DNA at seven loci of the nuclear genome].

Seven DNA markers from five genes and one chromosomal region were analysed in Mongolian population using the polymerase chain reaction. The frequencies of alleles of the polymorphisms detected with HindIII in the HBG-2, AvaII in the HBB, MspI and XbaI in the Apo-B, PstI in the D7S8, HincII in the LDLR and allele frequency of the minisatellite fragment in the AT-3 have been determined. The results of the RELP for Apo-B(MspI), LDLR, D7S8 and AT-3 are obtained for the first time among Mongoloids. DNA markers studied demonstrated high level of polymorphisms in the population of Mongolia, except for XbaI and MspI restriction sites at the Apo-B locus. The data obtained for Mongolian population and the literature data were compared.

[DNA polymorphism in the Mongolian population. Restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of mitochondrial DNA].

Restriction enzyme fragment patterns in the D loop and deletion-insertion polymorphism in the V noncoding region of human mitochondrial DNA (mt DNA) were analysed in Mongolian population using the polymerase chain reaction. Polymorphisms were detected and mt DNAs classified into 40 types using seven enzymes--AvaII, BamHI, CfrI131, KpnI, EcoRV, HaeIII RsaI and Asian specific deletion and insertion. The allele frequencies of the polymorphisms and gene diversity were determined. The data obtained for Mongolian population and the literature data were comparatively studied.

[Genetic structure of the Mongols as derived from the ABO, MN, Rh, EsD, GLO1, PGM1, AcP, 6-PGD, Hp, Gc, Tf, C'3 and ChE2 loci].

According to integral characterization of gene frequencies of the investigated loci AB0, MN, Rh, GLO1, PGM1, EsD, AcP, 6-PGD, Hp, Tf, Gc, C'3 and ChE2, Mongolian population has high level of polymorphism, with the exception of haplotypes R" (cdE) and Ry(CdE) at the Rh locus and TfB0-1 at the Tf locus. The data on biochemical and immunological polymorphic gene markers analysed in the population of Mongolia show that the Mongolians have some distinctive features, in comparison with the mean-in-the-world characteristics: high frequencies of the B genes at the AB0 locus; D, E, R1 and R2 at the Rh locus; GLO11, PGDc, TfDChi, E2(C5+), PGM1(1+); low frequencies of the genes A(AB0), R0(Rh), AcPc, Hp1, Gc2, C'3F, PGM 1(2-); the rest of the genes at the above-mentioned loci and the genes of the locus MN have the mean-in-the-world frequencies.

[Wound healing as affected by constitutional immunity factors].

The authors examined 52 patients with gunshot wounds of various localization. Besides the type of wound healing, they determined the ABO system blood groups, the value of phagocytosis intensity and the value of connective tissue saturation with ascorbic acid, which, as it was shown earlier, are unrelated to the current condition of the wound process and may serve for predicting the risk of wound purulent complications. The distribution features of the studied values in patients with gunshot wounds were compared with those in individuals with gunshot-inflicted wounds. It is shown that such signs of constitutional immunity as the B blood group, weak phagocytosis intensity, and low saturation of the connective tissue with ascorbic acid are risk factors of purulent complications in both traumatic and gunshot wounds.

[Ethnic genetics: ethnogeographic diversity of the gene pool of human populations around the world].

The study was undertaken to estimate a degree of genetic differentiation in human all-world population at the ethnic level of its structure. The genetic information for this work came from well-known A. Mourant's et al. world-wide survey on human genetic polymorphisms and from regional survey on the same polymorphisms of the USSR peoples. The data were grouped into 9 regional populations studied for 49 alleles and haplotypes belonging to 20 polymorphic loci. Average genetic distances from the all-world human gene pool to each of regional one, and from these to gene pools of ethnic groups within regions were estimated and compared. An unexpected result of this within-between-region comparative analysis is the shortest genetic distance between gene pools of the USSR peoples as a whole on the one hand, and all-world peoples on the other. At the same time, a considerable part of the total human genetic polymorphism is persisted in the USSR region.

[Genetics of human populations of Caucasus: distribution of various immunological and biochemical markers in eastern Georgia].

The distribution of genetic markers of blood groups (AB0, P, Rhesus, MNSs, Duffy, Lewis, Kell-Cellano), of the serum proteins (Hp, Gc, Tf, C'3), red-cell enzymes (AcP, EstD, GLO1) and also ABH-secretion among seven native populations of Eastern Georgia has been studied. The frequencies of genes and haplotypes were calculated for the polymorphic markers and the results obtained were used in analysis of interpopulation variation and genetic relationship of these populations to their geographical neighbours as well as to European and West Asian populations.

[Genetics of Caucasian population: distribution of various immunological and biochemical markers in western Georgia].

The distribution of genetic markers of blood groups (ABO, Rhesus, MNSs, P, Duffy, Kell-Cellano), plasma proteins (Hp, Gc, Tf, C'3) and red-cell enzymes (AcP, EstD, GLO-1), and also ABH secretion among 10 populations of Western Georgia has been studied. The common characteristic of distribution of gene frequencies for the markers studied was obtained as a whole in Georgia. The Georgians were compared for these markers with some populations of the Caucasus, Europe and West Asia. Among Caucasian populations, Georgians are most similar to Abkhasians. According to some systems, Georgians are close to European groups (ABO, Dubby, GLO-1, EstD), while they are similar to West-Asian groups, as judged by other systems (ABH secretion, AcP). According to Rhesus and MNSs systems, Georgians differ both from populations of Europe and from populations of West Asia.

[Genogeography of human populations: computer mapping of population genetics data].

Genogeography as a field of interdisciplinar investigation was introduced into science in 1928 by Russian geneticist A. S. Serebrovsky an today is well known in human genetics as gene geography. This work was undertaken to introduce a new method of computer cartography of gene frequencies in human and in any other populations. The method is different from known one of P. Menozzi, A. Piazza and L. Cavalli-Sforza. Two key moments of the method are principle of fusion-fission of gene in the homogeneous geographical space equally free-for-all human genes, and principle of local-linear (but not of the high-orders) interpolation of gene frequencies onto spheric surface of geographical space. Such procedure was used for mapping of human AB0-B gene frequencies among native populations of Central Asia.

[Ethnic genetics: relation between adaptive and neutral genetic differentiation of an ethnos].

It is very important to be able to distinguish between selectively significant genetic variability and selectively-neutral one for quantitative analysis of genetic differentiation in human (and any other) populations. The key to the problem is to determine a start-point for detection of neutral genetic variability, which will help to establish alignment of adaptive and neutral forces operating in genetic differentiation. The purpose of this work is to adduce proofs in favour of mean Fst value for a sample of gene loci as of the start-point for measuring neutrality level of genetic differentiation. These proofs came from various demographic and onomastic characteristics of ethnic groups as well as from genetic chronology of ethnic history which is in good concordance with actual historical chronology of ethnic groups. Once the start-point for testing neutrality is determined, it becomes possible to reveal the selective pressure to which various human genes are undergone and to elucidate adaptive structure of mankind's genetic pool. It was shown that only 15 alleles from 49 belonging to 20 polymorphic loci can be considered selectively neutral.

[Ethnogenetics: adaptive structure of the gene pool of the mankind from the data on human polymorphic genetic markers].

The mean FST value as a characteristic of gene frequency changes in a random sample of polymorphic genes from population gene pool provides the best indirect estimation of selectively neutral level of genetic variability. The set of test criteria, including chi 2, F and t, can be used in order to compare F1 with F and subdivide gene sample into three subgroups, or classes of genes which are differing from each other by the degree of variation of allelic frequencies. These three classes comprise the adaptive structure of gene pool and consist of the genes which are, respectively, under stabilizing and differentiating selection pressures or neutral ones. Adaptive structures of gene pools of aboriginal human populations at the main 9 geographical regions of the World, taken together, reveal statistically significantly correlation with adaptive structure of the total gene pool of the Mankind. But the correlation is rather small and therefore, the adaptive structure of human gene pool reveals between adaptive structures, the highest is for the USSR and the lowest are for the East-Asiatic and Australian regions. The proportion of neutral to non-neutral genes is about 50% in the average, with the range of variation 40-60% in different regions. But none of the polymorphic genes so far studied reveals constant neutrality in all regional conditions of environment and at different times of evolution history of human gene pool. Its adaptive structure underwent essential transformation from the Palaeolithic till the Postpalaeolithic times, but nevertheless, among the main features of contemporary adaptive structure of human gene pool, those predominate which are of the Palaeolithic origin.

[Gene geography of human population: computer-generated regional genogeographic atlas].

Gene geography is considered in this work as the instrument for analysis of population's gene pool. To be effective in this analysis, gene geography should move from mapping of gene frequencies for each gene (and phenes) to construction of genogeographical atlas, as a collection of maps generated by computer, following some strongly defined principles and methods, and joined together, according to general task and the programme of investigation. Brief version of regional genogeographical atlas of Mongolians and the other peoples of Central Asia is presented in the article. This atlas includes computer-generated maps of AB0, Hp, Gc, G'3, Tf, GLO, EstD and PGM1 gene frequencies as well as computer-generalized maps of Mongolian gene pool.

[The HLA system of the Uzbek population in the Ferghana Valley. HLA antigens, genes and haplotypes of the Uzbek population in relation to its ethnogenesis].

Pecularities of distribution of 40 HLA antigens within the Uzbek population of the Ferghana Valley have been studied. The frequencies of these antigens are subdivided into three main groups having frequencies characteristic of the following populations: Caucasoid population (A9, B40, Bw22 etc.); Mongoloid population (B8, B7, B12); Middle Asian population (Aw31, B13, B16, Bw35), probably. The Uzbek population contains haplotypes both of Europeoid (Aw30, B13; A3, Bw35) and Mongoloid origin (A9, B40) and, probably, of the local origin (A1, B14; A1, Bw53; Aw32, B40). The data on the HLA genetics of the Uzbeks confirm the historical, linguistic and anthropological information concerning the role of inhabitants of the Central Asia in ethnogenesis and formation of the modern Uzbek population.

[Population genetics of taiga hunters-deer breeders. Characteristics of the prevalence of HLA system markers among the native population of Central Siberia].

The postulated peculiarities of distribution of the HLA antigens in the Evenk population of the Central Siberia indicate this population to be, on the whole, Mongoloid. Prolonged isolated existence of small inbred populations of the Evenks resulted in the number of specific HLA-complex features, such as poor antigen diversity, low level of heterozygosity. Non-homogeneity of gene frequencies was noted, the prevailing genes being A9, B40 with frequencies reaching 50%. Of the remaining alleles found in the Evenks A2, Aw19 in A locus, B5, B15, B17, B27, Bw35 in B locus and Cw2, Cw3, Cw4-in C locus are only widely spread. Similar heterozygosis levels and the HLA-system profiles draw the Evenks and the populations of American Indians and Eskimos closer to one another. On the basis of the fact that significant positive correlation exists between genetic and geographic distances determined for the Evenks and the native populations of America, genetic resemblance of these populations may be considered as evidence for their original relationship. Postulated closeness of native Central-Siberian populations to Americanoids, as regards HLA-system, makes it possible to consider formation of specific complex of HLA-system peculiarities in native American population in the light of their Siberian origin, for the first time.

[Population genetics of taiga hunters and reindeer breeders in central Siberia. The biochemical markers of genes Hp, Tf, Gc, A1b, GLO1, PGM1, AcP and EsD].

Biochemical markers of gene systems Alb, Tf, Gc, Hp, GLO1, PGM1, EsD, AcP were analysed in the native population of Evenc national region. It is shown that native population of Central Siberia, in spite of its mongoloid racial type, posseses the complex of gene frequencies for protein loci studied which is not typical for mongoloids. The complex may be called "central-siberian" and its origin may be connected with the process of adaptation to environment of the Central Siberian geographical region. The system of gene markers analysed may be considered as a sensitive one in the studies of processes of gene adaptation to the local environmental factors and, in this connection, being perspective in these studies among native population of Siberia.
