[Resistance factor in emotional stress in the brain of rats].

The authors review the results of extraction from the brain of emotional stress-resistant donor rats of fractions containing "factor" that causes the increased resistance to stress in recipient rats predisposed to stress. Brain homogenates of donor rats were subjected to thermal treatment, gel filtration on Sephadex G-15 and lyophilization. The fractions extracted are low-molecular weight, thermostable, resistant to pronase hydrolysis and significantly (P less than 0.05) increase the resistance of recipient rats to stress.

[Disorders in the adrenergic innervation of the stomachs of rats with stable regulation of cardiovascular function in the presence of emotional stress].

Changes of arterial pressure and of the frequency of cardiac contractions were analyzed in Wistar rats under acute immobilization stress; stability of the cardiovascular functions under emotional stress was revealed. An increased sensitivity of the adrenergic component of the sympathetic and parasympathetic innervation of the stomach that caused the development of its dystrophic processes was observed. Emotional stress proved to be accompanied by phasic dynamics of disorders in the adrenergic innervation: mobilization in the adrenergic innervation was followed by its exhaustion.

[Fluorimetric study of phospholipase A-induced efflux of Ca2+ from liposomes].

Artificial vesicles, liposomes, were prepared from the total fraction of phospholipids of rat liver mitochondria. Electron microscopy showed that the structure of liposomes depended on cation composition of the medium in which they were formed. Fluorescence of chlorotetracycline increased in the suspension of liposomes loaded with Ca+2 due to the formation of Ca+2-chlorotetracycline-phospholipid membrane complex. Incubation of liposome suspension with phospholipase A in the presence of EDTA resulted in a decrease of chlorotetracycline fluorescence indicating a break of the integrity of liposome membranes and Ca+2 efflux.

[Concentration of biogenic amines in different brain structures of the rat adapted to chronic emotional stress].

The level of noradrenaline (NA), dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-OT), and that of 5-oxyindolacetic acid was studied in four brain structures of rats having endured acute or chronic immobilization emotional stress. In stress adapted animals, NA level was normalized in the hypothalamus and increased in the midbrain. DA level was increased in the hypothalamus, the midbrain and the medulla, and 5-OT level was increased in most of the structures studied. During above-mentioned shifts, the animals did not react by additional changes of NA, DA, and 5-OT levels to subsequent immobilizations. Observed rearrangements of turnover of neurotransmitters may be considered as one of the forms of manifestation of chronic emotional stress adaptation mechanisms.

[Effect of substance P on catecholamine levels in the hypothalamus and midbrain in the rat during immobilization stress].

Single intraperitoneal injection of substance P in a dose of 125 mcg/kg induced a significant increase of noradrenaline and dopamine level in the hypothalamus and the midbrain of intact rats. Under conditions of immobilization emotional stress, the substance P eliminated the stress induced decrease of hypothalamic noradrenaline and increase of its level in the midbrain; in other words the substance P normalized the noradrenaline level. Modulatory effect of a single injection of the substance P had a long-term character and was synchronized with an earlier found increase of resistability of rats to chronic emotional stress.

[Comparative analysis of the stability of cardiovascular system functions in immobilized rats of different strains].

The dynamics of arterial pressure and heart rate was studied in rats of different genetic lines (non-linear, Wistar, Way and August) during immobilization emotional stress. Different lines were characterised by different stability and ability of adaptation to emotional stress. Prognostic criteria were specified that enable to foresee at an early stage of emotional stress the disturbances of cardio-vascular control. The conclusion is made that resistancy against cardio-vascular disturbances during emotional stress is of genetic nature as well as may be due to characteristics of individual growth.

[Stability of the cardiovascular functions of different genetic strains of rats subjected to emotional stress].

The level of catecholamines was measured in various brain parts in rats of August and Wistar lines, characterized by different stability of cardio-vascular functions in emotional stress. In norm, the August line has a higher content of dopamine (DA), in the mid-brain in particular; the Wistar line has a higher content of noradrenaline (NA) in the hypothalamus. In susceptible animals, which showed different cardio-vascular disorders during 30 hours of immobilization (48% of the Wistar line and 90% of the August), and in animals resistent against emotional stress, the changes in the initial level of catecholamines were observed, both common and specific for two lines. An assumption is made that the stability of cardio-vascular functions in the emotional stress is provided for by an intensive metabolism of the NA-synthesizing neurones in the brain isthmus, and by a moderate activity of the DA-synthesizing neurones of the mid-brain; the susceptibility to cardio-vascular disorders in the emotional stress is due to increase in the activity of the DA-synthesizing mid-brain neurones, the decrease in the activity of the DA-hydroxilase and the exhaustion of NA in the hypothalamus.

[Substance P as a factor in resistance to emotional stress].

The effect of substance P--an endogenous brain peptide--on the resistance to chronic emotional stress was studied in rats. A single administration of the peptide (125 or 250 mkg/kg) elicits a highly significant increase of rats resistance to chronic emotional stress and reduces the raise of adrenals weight, hemodynamic fluctuations and emotional reactivity.

[Correlations between vegetative parameters in experimental emotional stress].

Correlative interrelations of the values of arterial pressure, heart and respiration rates were studied in rats by cross-correlation analysis, in conditions of free behaviour during acute immobilization stress and after chronic emotional two-month immobilization stress. During the acute emotional stress a disintegration of vegetative parametres is seen, the rate of it depends on the type of hemodynamic reaction to stress. The absence of such disintegration during immobilization of the animals enduring chronic stress, may point to the adaptation of these animals to repeated stress. The results obtained allow to suggest that the dissociation of the vegetative functions is a typical component of emotional stress reaction.
