The article presents the analysis of causes and outcomes of ARD and pneumonia incidence among the servicemen in one of the military units during the period 2002-2003. 95 forensic medical examinations were analyzed. The terms of disease occurrence, complications, unfavorable outcomes are presented. The defects in medical care rendering are shown. The recommendations on prophylaxis of such cases are shown.

The authors substantiate the urgency of toxicomania among the servicemen. The circumstances of toxicomania, its morphological manifestations, toxic agents used by the toxic substance addicts were analyzed using the materials of 98 observations from medicolegal practice with lethal outcome. The measures to prevent and diagnose the toxicomania are proposed.

The article focuses on a number of medical and legal problems in the drug addiction and toxicomania elimination in the Armed Forces. It contains some new information on recent documents and publications of the Ministry of Health and the government on the subject. At the other hand, the authors make an overall assessment of the analysis' possibilities in the country and its Armed Forces.

The authors summarize the experience of work of legal physicians in identification of servicemen who have perished on the territory of Chechnya. The article contains data concerning the methods of classification of non-identified cadavers in three identification groups and gives a scientifically substantiated system of pre-identification preparation of cadavers. A number of problematic questions which need its further solution are raised.
The article analyses the motives and reasons of suicides among servicemen, such as: misfortunes and difficulties of military service (29.3%), family and personal mishaps (31.7%), the fear of being punished for misdemeanor (13.9%), violation of interpersonal relations (8.1%). The authors cite the facts that have connecting links with suicidal cases and give medico-social characteristics of suicides. Medical factors of suicidal risk are depicted. A special attention is drawn on the missions of medical service on suicide prevention.

On the basis of practical experience (analysis of defects in 468 cases of trauma) the author formulates a pivotal concept of defect in medical care, reveals its nature and reasons, gives its functional classification. Many notions cited in the article have a general character and don't confine itself strictly to the subject of defects in cases of trauma. The author gives basis methods of the legal physician's activities in the prophylaxis of defects in medical care.
