[The effects of the orbital cortex on the neuronal activity of the tegmentum mesencephali in a food reflex in cats].

In chronic experiments on cat influences of functional exclusion of the orbital cortex on the rearrangement neuronal activity of the midbrain tegmentum on performance of food-acquiring conditioned reflexes have studied. Most neurons showed decreased firing rate responses increased latency and increase of number short interspike intervals accompanied by changes in parameters of the food-acquiring responses: increase latent periods and long persistence of electromyogram. The above-noted facts have shown that the most obvious excitatory influences to the midbrain tegmentum from orbital cortex in the period of initiation condition motor response.

[The participation of the glutaminergic and dopaminergic systems of the neostriatum in the organization of conditioned food reflexes].

Behavioural, neurophysiological and morphological experiments have shown specific influences of cortical and nigral inputs on the neostriatal functioning. The exclusion of cortical inputs resulted in different behavioural effects. Exclusion of nigral, dopaminergic input into the striatum led to impairment of conditioning. The unit activity data have shown that inhibitory nigral influences are mainly directed to the ventro-medial parts of the caudate nucleus, and activating ones--to the dorsal parts of this structure. Morphological studies have revealed topically organised connections of the motor areas of the cortex with dorsal parts of the caudate nucleus and limbic cortical areas with its ventro-medial parts. Some specifics of spatial organisation of nigral projections to the striatum have been shown. Experimental data are discussed in the light of systemic organisation of behaviour.

[Spontaneous spike activity of the head of the caudate nucleus after suppression of the substantia nigra].

In chronic experiments on cats, microelectrode studies of the caudate nucleus' head revealed topic and functional directions of nigral influences by means of reversible suppression of different portions of its compact and reticular areas. The most obvious inhibitory influences come to the caudate nucleus' head ventromedial segment from the medial portion of the black substance. The latter's lateral and central portions expedite impulsation toward the dorso--lateral and respective medial segments with activating influences prevailing. The revealed topic distribution of functionally different nigral afferents corroborates the morphofunctional heterogeneity of the nigro--caudal relation, the latter reflecting the complexness and diversity of this subsystem's participation in the brain integrative activity.

[Analysis of the neuronal activity of cortical-subcortical structures of a conditioned reflex].

Neuronal activity of the orbital cortex, the caudate nucleus and the amygdala were studied in chronic experiments on dogs and cats by the method of alimentary and defensive conditioned reflexes. A spatial distribution of neurones involved in the alimentary and defensive conditioned reflexes, was revealed in the caudate nucleus head. The units responding to conditioned alimentary stimuli are localized primarily in the ventral segment. Similarity of responses to surroundings and to trigger conditioned alimentary stimuli was found between the units of the ventral segment in the caudate nucleus head and of the amygdala basolateral part. The influence of stimulation of the amygdala on the orbital cortex units was established in the alimentary conditioned reflex in dogs. A conclusion has been drawn that in elaboration of an alimentary conditioned reflex the neurones of three levels become organized into a definite system, providing for an adequate reaction of the organism to the conditioned stimulus.

[Neuronal activity of the head of the caudate nucleus during formation of positive and inhibitory motor alimentary conditioned reflexes in cats].

Cellular activity of the caudate nucleus head was studied on 15 cats during motor alimentary conditioning, extinction and elaboration of differentiation response. Analysis of the dynamics of the appearance and stabilization of neuronal conditioned responses attests that the caudate nuclei are a part of the morpho-functional structure of the given conditioned reflex. A functional heterogeneity within the nuclels head has been shown on the basis of responses of the cells during conditioned and unconditioned behaviour. It has been assumed that cellular populations of the ventral segment of the caudate nucleus head are predominantly involved in providing for a normal course of the processes of extinction and detection of significant signals in this form of conditioned alimentary behaviour in cats.
