[Systemic hemodynamic reactions in passive orthostatic test].

The authors suggested a method to evaluate orthostatic stability in passive orthostatic test. Cardiovascular reaction to venous deposition caused by posture change is measured with computer complex "Biankor" monitoring left ventricle parameters. The article covers analysis of systemic hemodynamic reactions to orthostatic test with consideration of hemodynamic type, diagnostic criteria to evaluate individual cardiovascular reaction to orthostatic test.

[Clinical characteristics of hypertensive disease in patients with alexithymia].

AIM: To study hemodynamics and metabolism in patients with hypertensive disease and various severity of alexithymia. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Psychological testing was included into complex examination of 202 patients with stage II hypertensive disease. RESULTS: Patients with alexithymia had longer duration of hypertensive load, higher frequency of target organs damage, intensified processes of lipid peroxidation and depressed activity of antioxidant defense, derangements of lipid metabolism. Twenty four hour blood pressure index characterizing day-night pressure gradient depended on the psychological status of patients. Nocturnal hypertension or insufficient nocturnal lowering of blood pressure were more frequent in patients with alexithymia. CONCLUSION: The presence of alexithymic personality traits was associated with more severe clinical presentation of hypertensive disease.

[The pathogenetic characteristics and the possible ways for the pharmacological correction of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus].

This work reflects the modern concepts of the pathogenesis of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and the prospective trends of pharmacological correction, analyzes the possibility of including in the therapeutic complex antiviral drugs, immunocorrecting measures, antioxidants, inhibitors of aldose reductase, amino guanidine, SH-group donors, and new medicamentous forms of insulin. Problems of an individual choice of drugs with consideration for the stage-development of the disease, the main pathogenetic mechanisms, the chronobiological rhythm of drug prescription, and adequate control of the efficacy of the applied pharmacotherapy are discussed.

[Effect of quamatel on neutrophil properties, parameters of lipid peroxidation and the antioxidant defense system in blood of patients with duodenal ulcer and pancreatitis].

The properties of neutrophils, the parameters of lipid peroxidation, and the characteristics of antioxidant protection (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione reductase activity) were studied in the blood of patients with duodenal ulcer and pancreatitis in the course of quamatel administration. The pattern of changes induced by quamatel shows evidence of the antioxidant activity of the drug.

[The effect of exposure to 60Co accelerated electrons and gamma quanta on the activity of oxidative and hydrolytic enzymes in the rat brain].

In experiments with 112 male Wistar rats it was shown that accelerated electrons (85 Gy) caused a significant increase in activities of succinate dehydrogenase (SDG) by 15.8% and lactate dehydrogenase (LDG) by 17.0%, and a decrease in activities of alkaline phosphatase (AP) and monoamine oxidase (MAO) by 10.6 and 7.8% respectively within the sensorimotor region of the cerebral cortex immediately after irradiation. Activity of SDG and MAO decreased (by 16.4% and 7.8% respectively) in the caudate nucleus over the same period of time. An increase in the accelerated electron dose from 85 to 500 Gy did not change the direction and the rate of the radiation response of the enzymes. Exposure of rats to 60Co gamma quanta (75 Gy) increased SDG and LDG activity (by 21.4 and 17.3% respectively) within the sensorimotor cortex as late as 10 min after irradiation. A repeated significant increase in SDG and LDG activity was observed 2 hr after irradiation.

[The effect of ionizing radiation and immunomodulators on the development of the graft versus host reaction].

The reaction "transplant against host" (RTAH) was performed by subcutaneous transplantation of popliteal lymphnode lymphocytes of C57Bl/6 mice (CBA X C57Bl/6)F1 mice. gamma-Irradiation of donors with a dose of 6 Gy was shown to activate the function of T-lymphocytes, effectors in RTAH. Recipients irradiated with the same dose exhibited a drastic decrease in the ability of the organism to restrict RTAH. Decaris administered 15 min after irradiation of donors removed the postirradiation RTAH increase. In nonirradiated donors or recipients, the immunomodulators increased RTAH.

[Antiradiation properties of radioprotectors, immunomodulators and agents affecting tissue metabolism in fractionated irradiation].

A comparative study was made of the protective efficacy of the per os administered cystamine and mexamine as well as of immunomodulators: decaris and thymoptin, and agents influencing tissue metabolism, such as glutamevite and phosphate concentrate, in conditions of fractionated gamma irradiation at a time interval between fractions of 7 to 1 days. In experiments with (CBA X C57B1/6)F1 and (DBA X C57B1/6)F1 hybrid mice it was shown that with a single exposure cystamine and mexamine protected 40-50% of animals. With a three-fold exposure once a week the efficacy of cystamine was as high as 70%. With exposure every other day the radioprotective efficacy of cystamine and mexamine dropped down to 28.3%. With daily exposure, cystamine was ineffective. Decaris and phosphate concentrate had a slight and transient effect amounting to 10-20%.

[The physiological role and pharmacological correction of the effects of prostanoids and leukotrienes].

The biological role and pharmacological effects of prostanoids and leukotrienes are considered, the relationship with the actions of more than 80 drugs changing in this or that way their level in the organism is analysed. New substances and drugs--synthetic analogues of prostanoids and leukotrienes, blockers of their synthesis as well as activators and inhibitors of their metabolism are presented. The perspectives of their clinical use are discussed.

[Experimental model of heuristic decision making in experiments on rats for pharmacologic screening].

In experiments on 399 rats the authors developed a method permitting the evaluation of the rate and probability of solving the task demanding from the experimental animals to survive after immersion in cold water. Each animal was exposed to stress only once in life. The task was solved by the animals with the probability rate of approximately 80-100% within 2 min. The pharmacological agents with the depriming effects (morphine, aminazine, sodium oxybutyrate, phenazepam) decreased the aim-oriented behavioral reactions of experimental animals. Caffeine (5-10 mg/kg) decreased the reaction time necessary for solving the task and phenazepam (5 mg/kg) blocked the decision made by the exposed rats to eliminate the stress situation. Nootropil and strychnine exerted no effects on the probability and quickness of the exposed rats to solve the stressful task.

[Changes in the activity of the oxidative and hydrolytic enzymes of the animal cerebral cortex in the early periods after gamma irradiation and the use of meksamine and the synthetic analog of prostaglandin F2 alpha-estrofan].

In experiments with (CBA x C57B1/6)F1 mice it was shown that LDH activity moderately increased 5 min after exposure of the head to 200 Gy gamma radiation. After 60 min, there was a 24.4 per cent decrease in alkaline phosphatase activity and a 24.3 per cent increase in SDG activity. Injected prior to irradiation meksamine precluded the postirradiation increase in SDH and alleviated the postirradiation decrease in alkaline phosphatase.
