[Nervous system pathology in uterine myomas].

Clinico-physiological examinations of 218 patients with uterine myoma were carried out using the methods of electromyography and rheopgraphy. The following syndromes were revealed: a myopathic and a radiculoalgic ones; the syndrome of the external dermal femoral and the femorogenital nerves. The pathogenesis of these syndromes consists in compression of the lumbar arteries and the minor pelvis ganglia by the enlarged uterus. On condition of timely treatment including surgical ablation of the myoma the prognosis of the neurological disturbances is, as a rule, favourable.

Adult

[Carbohydrate metabolism disorders in stroke].

In the acute period of cerebral stroke most patients develop disorders of carbohydrate metabolism. These disorders resemble the diabetic syndrome, but differ from the latter by their lability and absence of the signs of ketoacidosis. The intensity of the syndrome depends on the gravity of the stroke, size and localization of the focus, character of the process (the syndrome is more pronounced in cases of hemorrhagic strokes), and the state of the pancreas.

Acute Disease

[Neurologic features of cervical osteokhondrosis with pseudocardiac and cardiac pain syndromes].

The authors examined 100 patients in whom cervical osteochondrosis developed with pain in the heart, intercostal, sternum area, left hand, as well as radicle, pain, vegetative and reflectory-dystrophical disturbances. The differential diagnosis between pseudocardialgia and cardialgia, on the one hand, and stenocardia, on the other, is not always simple and is based on clinical data, x-ray and ECG examinations. The basis of the pathogenesis in pseudocardialgia is the irritation of posterior sensory radicles by osteophytes or disc protrusion. Cardialgia is an incarceration and excitation of sympathical nerves, leading to disturbances in the myocardial metabolism. A comprehensive conservative treatment may give a favourable effect in the majority of patients, while indications for surgical operations are very rare.

Adult

[Changes in the nervous system in kidney diseases].

A total of 150 patients with renal pathology (chronic glomerulonephritis, pyelonephritis, urolithiasis, etc.) accompanied by the development of psychoneurological disturbances were examined. In the initial stage of the renal insufficiency the authors observed neurasthenic, radicular, polyneuritic, renovisceral syndromes, in a more remote stage--encephalopathies and disturbances of the brain circulation. The important part in the above-mentioned disturbances is played by azotemia, metabolic acidosis, disturbances of fluid-electrolyte and albumine balance, as well as arterial hypertension.

Acute Kidney Injury

[Cerebral circulatory disorders in patients with cardiovascular diseases accompanied by cardiac rhythm disorders].

The authors examined 180 patients where disorders of cerebral circulation developed on the background of different disturbance of the heart rhythm. The patients suffered from rheumatic heart disease, hypertensive disease or atherosclerosis in concomitance with ischemic heart disease. For comparison, 100 patients with similar disorders were studied, but without disturbances of heart rhythm. It was established that disorders of cerebral circulation were more frequently seen in permanent forms of cardiac fibrillation and less so in paroxysmal cardiac fibrillation and extrasystoles. The most severe disorders of cerebral circulation were seen in combinations of permanent forms of cardiac fibrillation with single and frequent ventricular extrasystoles in patients with rheumatic heart disease.
