[Anatomo-pathological alterations of the lung in hemorrhagic shock studied with lungs fixed by classical method and when expanded (author's transl)].

The authors have studied lungs of 14 dogs that have been submitted to hemorrhagic shock. The right lung was fixed in the ordinary way and the left lung in expansion. They examine preparations of a 11 lobes of both lungs. Vacuolar degeneration of the cells of the terminal bronchioles and the respiratory bronchioles, hypertrophy of the cells of the alveolar sac of mild degree were constant findings. Alveolar edema of some intensity was observed in all preparations. Atelectasias of severe degree were only seen in preparations fixed in the ordinary way.

[Pathological alterations in pulmonary fat embolism caused by oleic acid. Experimental study in dogs (author's transl)].

The authors studied the pathological aspects of the lungs in an experimental study made in dogs submitted to fat embolism. The histological aspects were of hemorrhagic edema when the lungs were fixed in the classical way as well when they were fixed inflated. The alveolar microatelectasias were only seen in lungs fixed in the classical way but not were seen in lungs fixed when inflated.

Selective venting of cigarette smoke in dichotomous ducts and preserved human bronchi.

Mechanically generated cigarette smoke and ambient air were injected into dichotomous ducts and geometrically preserved human bronchi in a fashion simulating typical smoking technique. When the air passages were at ambient temperature, the smoke settled into the lower branches. Smoke which was injected into passages warmed to body temperature rose to the upper branches. The latter selective distribution of the smoke resembled the distribution of centrilobular emphysema in the lungs.
