Perioperative nursing model redesign.
The Surgical Services Division at a university hospital has created a patient delivery system that integrates the TQM values: continuous improvement, shared governance and staff empowerment. A divisional shared governance model includes specific roles for several councils: departmental shared governance, clinical practice, professional practice and systems. This model has promoted a proactive, monthly approach to quality assessment and improvement, compared to the traditional quarterly review.
