Long-standing Morel-Lavallée lesion in the proximal thigh: ultrasound and MR findings with surgical and histopathological correlation.

A 65-year-old man presented with a soft mass in his proximal right thigh. Ultrasonography showed a well-defined anechoic lesion with slightly internal echoes. On MRI, the mass was hypointense and minimally hyperintense compared with muscle at T1 and hyperintense at T2, with a hypointense peripheral rim on both sequences. No signal loss was observed on T1-weighted fat-suppression MRI. The clinical setting, imaging findings and histopathological features were consistent with a long-standing Morel-Lavallée lesion.

Blocking effect of diltiazem in the isolated rat phrenic hemidiaphragm.

The effects of diltiazem on indirectly and directly elicited twitch were studied in the isolated rat phrenic hemidiaphragm preparation. Diltiazem (30-500 microM) blocked the indirectly elicited twitch response and this effect was not affected by reducing the extracellular calcium from 2.5 to 1.25 mM. An effect on the directly elicited twitch was also observed (100-300 microM). Diltiazem (30-300 microM) blocked the peak tetanic tension and tetanic fade was present. The results were consistent with an action of diltiazem on the nicotinic receptor-ion channel complex.

Facilitatory action of adrenergic drugs on muscle twitch evoked by nerve stimulation in the curarized rat phrenic hemidiaphragm.

The facilitatory effects of alpha-adrenergic drugs on neuromuscular transmission has been studied in the curarized rat phrenic-hemidiaphragm. The reversal effect of blocking action of (+)-tubocurarine on indirectly-induced twitch by alpha-adrenergic agents was higher with noradrenaline (EC50 = 6.51 +/- 0.18 microM) compared with adrenaline (EC50 = 11.80 +/- 1.06 microM) or phenylephrine (EC50 = 17.36 +/- 1.02 microM). Methoxamine, clonidine and azepexol showed no effect. The action of noradrenaline was blocked by prazosin (IC50 = 3.96 +/- 0.76 nM) and tolazoline (IC50 = 10.30 +/- 0.5 nM) but not by yohimbine at the concentration range 0.01-0.1 microM. From these results it could be concluded that an alpha 1-adrenergic mechanism might be involved in the facilitatory action of alpha-adrenergic agents at the level of motor nerve terminals.
