Effects of (DesGly9-Arg8) vasopressin on cognitive processes in alcoholic patients.

The effect of intranasally administered (DesGly9-Arg8) vasopressin (DGAVP) on certain aspects of cognitive functions of alcoholic patients was studied. The investigation was carried out in 103 chronic alcoholic patients. None of the patients suffered from Korsakoff's syndrome, portal encephalopathy or brain damage of other etiology. The trial was double-blind, placebo controlled. Psychological testing, which included certain aspects of attention, short-term and long-term memory and spatial orientation, was carried out on the day before (baseline measurements), on the last day (II), and seven days after the last administration of DGAVP (III). No treatment effect of DGAVP was observed. The results show that investigations with humans are infinitely more complex than those with animals, since a number of physiological and socio-psychological factors must be controlled. In this study of alcoholics two such factors: 1) duration of abstinence and 2) adaptation to test situation were identified.

[Simultaneous transvesical prostatectomy and reconstructive surgery of inguinoscrotal hernia].

In the surgical treatment of the hypertrophy of the prostata we use few operative methods. Some of them are older than 80 years. Mainly we use modify Harris--Hryntschak technics. Still 1889 Bassini made known operative method for onquinoscrotal hernia which has been with some modifications used up to this day. Bacause of the very low mortality and a pour local complication in last 5 years, if there is in the same time hypertrophy of the prostata and hernia, we combined open transvesical prostatectomy with a plastic of onquinoscrotal hernia. The authors give own operative technic, its advantage and the review on own casuistic.

Spermolithiasis.

Spermolithiasis has been a neglected subject of discussions and of published observations. This may be due to the fact that the process is fairly uncommon and does not seem to involve serious clinical consequences. It presents, on the other hand, important differential diagnostic aspects in connection with the pathology of the true pelvis and may give rise to misinterpretations unless its possibility is kept in mind. The importance of this rare syndrome is pointed out. Its etiology, pathology, symptomatology, differential diagnosis and therapy are discussed. Five observations are reported.
