The advantages of the cast-brace include early independence in amublation resulting in decreased length of hospitalization and increased functional activities; increased knee function which allows sitting; avoidance of surgery and the possibility of concomitant complications; promotion of healing by decreasing edema and increasing callous formation; and decreasing the chance of delayed union; non-union, and refracture of the femur.
