[Animal experimental studies on the healing of tooth fractures with conventional splinting and with endodontal tension screws].

Using polchromatic sequential labeling, the healing of experimentally inflicted root fractures was observed in beagle dogs. A transition through hard substances formed from vascular connective tissue of the periodontium occurred only in the fine fracture line. It was not related to the pulp, since it also appeared after endodontal fixation. A vascular mineralization occurs in the extra-fine tissue which can be reached through a tension screw into the pulp cavity. This mineralization leads to a filling of the fragments. Dislocated root fragments heal incompletely due to interposition of connective tissue.

[Growth of the tooth root after radiation--an animal experimental study].

The extent to which root growth and tooth eruption can be influenced by irradiation trauma was studied in beagle dogs. A cobalt 60 teletherapy apparatus with various dosages between 600 rad and 2400 rad was used to inflict the trauma on the maxilla and mandible. The results showed that the delay in tooth eruption was dependent on the dosage, but erruption could not be hindered. Longitudinal growth of the roots of irradiation, independent of the level of the dose. The periodontal fibers were normally aligned as with healthy teeth; the apex was formed predominantly by surplus cellular cement.

[Pulp reaction and formation of hard substances after direct capping with a lyophilized collagen preparation].

The course of healing following direct capping of the pulp with collagen fleece differed from that after capping with Calxyl. The collagen fleece covering the pulp and filling part of the dentinal defect was replaced by newly formed pulp tissue with a new growth of dentine from the margins. Calxyl however initially produced localized necrosis. Hard substance was deposited in this circumscribed necrotic area.

[Animal experimental studies on bone regeneration after the implantation of heteroplastic materials].

The healing of standardized bony defects in the region of the mandible following implantation of various heterologous bony components was controlled in animal experiments via polychromatic sequential labeling. The implant of gelatin foam did not accelerate healing. The combination of gelatin and solcoseryl led to accelerated mineralization in the marginal area. Mature collagen affected rapid healing of the bony defect, as did the implantation of a combination of Solcoseryl and bone meal.

[Possibilities of healing of periodontal injuries in the apical region--an animal experimental study].

A histologic study of the healing of periodontal injuries in the area of the roots was carried out using beagle dogs. Mucobuccal injuries were inflicted in the dentoaveolar region with a saw. Polychromatic fluorescence labeling was selected to observe the reparative processes. Combined with polarization, it was possible to obtain a good evaluation of the unstained microsection. The course of healing was favorable, and the original condition was completely restored. When pure saw injuries were limited to the periodontium, we found that saw cuts extending into the dentin always left defects in the hard substance which, under favorable conditions, functionally adapted to the attachment apparatus of the teeth.

[Healing of a spongiosa graft in the periodontal pocket (animal experimental study)].

Healing of cancellous bone grafts taken from the iliac crest which were implanted in alveolar bone pockets were followed with polychromatic sequence marking in animal experiments using beagle dogs. Healing of the cancellous bone graft is unproblematic only in the case of one- and two-walled defects. A periodontal fissure of normal width, but perforated by ankyloses, formed within seven weeks. The fissures are considerably more pronounced when the dentin is denuded than when the cement layer has been preserved.

[Evaluation of the basal parts of the maxillary sinus by means of panoramic tomography].

Information acquired via the panorama tomograph was compared with that obtained via the occipitodental plain film of the paranasal sinuses. Almost all findings in the basal maxillary sinuses were better identified and localized on the panorama film. A plain film of the paranasal sinuses however cannot be dispensed with since assessment of the whole maxillary sinus is only possible on the plain film.
