[Assessment of normal values of peripheral blood in children up to 7 years of age].

After examination of 722 healthy children, permanent residents in the Rzeszów region, the mean values of peripheral blood were established for age groups from 1 to 84 months. The values of individual morphological++ parametres of blood were independent in this region of the environment (rural or urban areas), sequence of birth in sibship, and sex. Physiological erythropenia was found to appear already from the 2nd month of life on, and in differential white blood cell count ++lymphocytes prevailed up to the age of 66 months (second crossing). A high correlation was demonstrated between haematocrit and haemoglobin and erythrocyte count.

Age Factors↗

[Determining normal values of the peripheral blood in children 1-84 months of age from urban and rural regions of the Rzeszow district].

The analysis was performed of influence of urban and rural population on peripheral blood cell counts in 961 children aged 0 to 7 years. No relevant differences were found in peripheral blood cell counts in urban and rural children. This could be explained by a marked penetration of the urban population by the country people. The predominance of the lymphocyte count over the granulocyte count occurred first as soon as on the 5th day of life, lasted until the 66th month of life when it got reversed. The physiologic erythrocytopenia has been found as soon as in the 2nd month of life.

Immunological reactivity of glycoprotein antigens from human lung cancers.

Glycoprotein antigens were extracted with perchloric acid (PCA) from the 14 individual lung anaplastic cancers and 4 lung adenocarcinomas and their antigenic activity was compared with carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) isolated from liver metastases of colon cancer. The studies were performed by double immunodiffusion, immunoelectrophoresis and radioimmunoassay, using the specific immune sera against PCA-extracted glycoproteins of lung anaplastic cancer (anti-80 PCA-CaLu), and also anti-CEA, anti-AFP, and anti-alpha 1-acid glycoprotein sera. The existence of at least three groups of antigens in lung cancers was demonstrated, i. e. CEA-like antigen, group antigen characteristic for most of the lung anaplastic cancers and lung adenocarcinomas non-related to CEA and antigen(s) detectable only in some of anaplastic cancers. Moreover antigen of alpha 1-acid glycoprotein reactivity was detected in all lung cancers studied.
