This report deals with 38 patients suffering from hydatid disease of the liver. The most frequently performed operative procedures were hepatic resection (n = 16), filling the cavity with normal saline solution (n = 16), filling the cavity with normal saline solution (n = 8), and total cystectomy (n = 6). Hepatic resection is mainly indicated in patients with alveolar echinococcosis of the liver lobe have to be removed. In patients with only one hydatid cyst of the liver the simple method of saline filling should be preferred. The prerequisite of saline filling is that no biliary fistula exists. If the remaining cavity of the hydatid cyst fills with bile, it can be easily drained under local anaesthesia with computertomographic control. Mebendazole was given in two cases with alveolar echinococcosis of the liver that could not be treated surgically. In both cases this treatment proved to be effective.
In De Quervains dislocation fracture pseudarthroses of the scaphoid bone following closed reduction are very common, 59% being reported in a former publication. Exact adaptation of the fragments after reduction of the perilunar dislocation is essential for healing of the fracture. In cases where this is not possible by conservative means, open reduction and screwing of the scaphoid fracture is necessary for better result with a rate of pseudarthroses of only 16%.

In 258 patients with fractures and pseudarthroses of the carpal scaphoid the cause and type are given and the results of treatment are presented. It is verified that the majority of fresh fractures are united by plaster immobilisation. In fractures with delayed healing and in cases with non-union the best results are achieved by autologous bone grafting.
The tissue of adenine nucleotides in the myocardium of rabbits, rats and dogs can be raised up to 40% by the infusion of adenosin. This increase is a function of the applied dose, the duration and the mode of application of adenosin; it does not result from the adenosin-induced reduction in cardiac work.
A improved method is presented, which enables methacrylat embedded bone-corticalis to be cut with a fast running saw into shreds of 20 to 40 micrometer thickness without loss. The usual staining is available. There are no microfractures and no microscopical shrinkings.
In the rabbit heart, continuous infusion (12 ml/hr) of 1% adenosine into the superior caval vein, or of 0.5% adenosine into the left myocardial ventricle, for a period of 3 hr increased the myocardial tissue level of ATP by almost 40% over the control (5.0 mumol/g). Both shorter or longer periods of application and lower or higher concentrations of adenosine, as well as the infusion of adenosine into the left atrium, were less effective. The increase markedly outlasted the period of application of adenosine. It did not result from the adenosine-induced systemic hypotension and decrease in cardiac work, but must be attributed to a direct metabolic effect of the adenosine infusion.
