Guide-wire reinforcement and lengthening with coaxial locking guide wires: the crimping technique.

The authors developed a technique to increase the size of a guide wire and permit single-step placement of catheters and large sheath systems over previously inserted small-caliber guide wires. The technique involves compression of metal cannula against a smaller in-dwelling wire or inner cannula. It has been used successfully during laser-assisted balloon angioplasty and percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

Safe use of an intravenous power injector for CT: experience and protocol.

Use of a power injector to deliver contrast material intravenously for computed tomography is a safe alternative to a bolus or drip infusion technique. The authors performed 5,280 injections at rates of 0.5-5.0 mL/sec. Six extravasations occurred, and none resulted in long-term sequelae. This complication rate is 0.1%.

Malignant liver tumors.

In this monograph we have presented the most important liver tumors in children and adults with pathological correlation. We believe that this information may be useful for understanding the varying radiological findings in malignant liver tumors since it includes pathological findings responsible for the radiographic images. It is clear that there are no characteristic signs that could establish a specific radiological diagnosis in malignant liver tumors. However, careful analysis of the radiographic images provided by different modalities and correlations with the clinical data may, in many cases, suggest a correct preoperative diagnosis.
