Sexual behavior during pregnancy.

This descriptive study of sexual behavior and response in 1500 obstetric patients registering for prenatal care demonstrates complex interactions of various sociodemographic factors. Variables most predictive of coital frequency during pregnancy include marital status, gestational age, parity, and race, as well as some unique combinations of statistics. Orgasmic response increases with patient age but lack of understanding of the terminology makes further interpretation unreliable. Dyspareunia is experienced infrequently during pregnancy. When it occurs, it decreases coital frequency in single women more than in married women. Studies examining differences or changes in sexual behavior during pregnancy versus fetal outcome must take into account that factors known to affect fetal outcome are also associated with changes in sexual behavior.

Renal agenesis after first trimester exposure to chlorambucil.

One of a set of twins aborted at 20 weeks' gestation had unilateral renal agenesis after exposure to chlorambucil and prednisone since conception. There are no firm clinical data suggesting that second or third trimester exposure to any of the immunosuppressive drugs is toxic to the fetus, and no absolute cause-and-effect relationship is established in this case.

Clinical experience using intraamniotic prostaglandin F2alpha for midtrimester abortion in 600 patients.

Six hundred consecutive patients received intraamniotic prostaglandin F2alpha to induce midtrimester abortion. The PGF2alpha was administered by a general population of gynecologists according to a standard protocol. The aim of the study was to observe whether results would be similar to those reported in various research studies. Of 600 abortions, 460 were complete, 140 were incomplete, and there were no abortion failures. Other parameters were also similar to previous research results, indicating that PGF2alpha can be an effective and safe means of inducing midtrimester abortion when administered by the practicing gynecologist.
