In their study of the neuroendocrine aspects of cerebral aging the authors review the effect of glucocorticoids, their participation in the mechanisms of neuronal loss and their beneficial and destructive effects. They discuss the treatment strategies for showing the destructive aspects of aging and the effect of acetyl-L-carnitine in rats. They conclude that age-related degeneration of neural tissue is the complex result of multiple factors which synergize to cause neural destruction, including endogenous excitatory amino acids, calcium ions, endogenous proteolytic enzymes, free radicals and circulating glucocorticoids. It is considered that acetyl-L-carnitine may have protective effects in rats.

Tuberculosis of the larynx: clinical aspects in 19 patients.

Laryngeal tuberculosis continues to exist in spite of extensive tuberculosis eradication campaigns. We present 19 cases of laryngeal tuberculosis seen in our institution between 1982 and 1987. From the clinical findings it is clear that the localization of the lesions has changed since the preantibiotic era. Today the spread appears to be mainly via lymphatic and hematogenic routes, as opposed to the direct spread more common previously. The fibrosis caused by the lesions is incapacitating and frequently requires surgical correction.

[On software concerning the Ruiz technic of trapezoidal incisions for the treatment of astigmatism].

The study of the parameters used to establish the software program concerning the trapezoidal incisions of Ruiz in the treatment of astigmatism, shows that only the differential keratometry between the two axis and the power of the spherical component are utilized. The small number of parameters taken into account in the program enables us to present it in two tables.
