The venous hilum of the testis and epididymis: anatomic aspect.

The venous return from the testis is effected by 3 venous pathways: the pampiniform plexus gathrs the centripetal and centrifugal paths of the testis with the marginal vein of the epididymis; the deferential vein accompanies the ductus deferens; and the cremasteric vein travels more superficially between the internal and external spermatic fasciae on its way to the inferior epigastric vein. At the caudal pole of the testicle these different pathways form such close connections as to constitute a real vascular junction.

[Results of the treatment of acute intestinal invaginations by radiopaque enemas. Apropos of 70 cases].

Since May 1982, when the pediatric surgery group of Rouen has published their study in the 39th congress of "Societe Française de Chirurgie Infantile", regular surgical attitude in treatment of intussusception was abandoned by our team. Seventy cases were admitted in our section in the period (06-82/06-86), age ranged from one month to nine years. All except one were subjected to radio-opaque enema as a method of treatment with success rate of 89% reduction. Optimum conditions, failures (7 case), perforation (one case) and recurrence are presented. We conclude the efficacy of this treatment in condition of a rigorous technic.

Serum iron determination using ferene triazine.

The synthesis and characterisation of a new colorimetric reagent for iron, 3-(2-pyridyl)-5,6-bis(2-furyl)-1,2,4-triazine are described. Peak assignments and chemical shifts of the high resolution 13C nmr spectrum are given. The reagent forms a tris iron(II) complex with epsilon max of 32000 Lcm-1 mol-1 at 577 nm. The results of precision, linearity and recovery studies for use of the reagent in direct serum iron determinations are reported. Thiourea effectively suppresses copper interference for the serum iron determinations. With the procedure used, the presence of hemolysed cells in the serum had no effect on serum iron levels recorded.

Spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma in a 22-month-old girl.

The authors report the case of a 22-month-old girl who developed cervical pain, neck stiffness, and quadriparesis over 12 days. An epidural hematoma was removed, with complete recovery after 6 months. There was no history of trauma. A search of the literature revealed eight previous cases of spontaneous spinal epidural hematomas in children under the age of 10 years.

Copper interference in the determination of iron in serum using ferrozine.

Random samples of sera were analysed for copper and iron. Based on the data presented in this paper and substantiated by other workers, the ferrozine method for the determination of serum iron is the most sensitive method currently available, provided the interference due to copper is effectively eliminated.
