Utilizing standards of nursing practice for effective school nursing management.

This article describes the relevance of utilizing the Roles and Standards of School Nursing Practice in managing school health services systems effectively. One significant standard described is Program Management. This standard falls under the role of Planner and Coordinator of Client Care. By utilizing standards of practice to build and review school nursing practice, readers will be able to validate their significant role in supporting student success and management of school health programs.

School nurse managers: the power to be productive.

In recent issues of the Journal of School Nursing within the Nursing Practice Management section, two key areas of management have been addressed. The first article (JOSN 14(1), Feb. 1998) provided assistance for nurses in making successful transitions from a clinic setting to the educational environment. The second (JOSN 14(2), April 1998) focused on utilization of the standards of school nursing practice in daily management issues. This paper will focus on ways in which school nurses can increase their productivity and effectiveness as managers of their health services environment.

Rapunzel's place.

This paper describes an innovative approach to personal hygiene education and intervention and pediculosis management in an elementary school. The three-phase project consisted of a hand-washing program, distribution of personal hygiene packets, pediculosis education, and intervention which culminated in the establishment of a school-based beauty salon.
