Sialic acid and sialidase activity in human endometrial tissue, uterine fluid and plasma under different conditions of uterine dysfunction.

Sialic acid content in endometrial tissue and sialidase activity in the endometrium, uterine fluid and plasma has been measured in normal and in conditions of uterine dysfunctions. It has been observed that an antagonistic effect exists between endometrial sialidase and sialic acid content, but in all the cases of uterine dysfunctions, the sialidase activity in uterine fluid and plasma decreases, whereas it increases during pregnancy.

Adrenocortical changes in rats during acute and chronic administration of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol.

Acute intraperitoneal administration of delta-9-THC (at doses of 10 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg) to adult male albino rats showed characteristic stimulating effect on adrenocortical tissues with marked depletion of ascorbic acid, cholesterol containing neutral lipids and significant increase in the delta5-3 beta -hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activities in the zona fasciculata and zona reticularis regions. Adrenal weights and the histometric measurements of the adrenocortical areas showed no significant changes. Chronic intraperitoneal administration of delta-9-THC (at doses of 10 mg/kg per day for 15 days) produced marked accumulation of cholesterol containing neutral lipids, with increase in ascorbic acid and delta5-3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase activities in the fasciculata-reticularis regions. Adrenal weights and histometric measurements revealed marked hypertrophy of the adrenal glands.

Effect ofprostaglandins E1 and E2 on hypothalamoneurohypophyseal--Neurosecretory systems of rats: a histochemical study.

PGE2 increases NSM in the neurosecretory neurons and posterior pituitary store of HNNS. It stimulates acid phosphatase and TPPase activities in HT, indicating increased synthesis of NSM. PGE2 also increases AChE and BuChE activities. PGE1 shows very little effect on NSM distribution and enzyme activities. It is concluded that PGE2 causes increased HNNS activity by stimulating AChE-mediated and Ca2+-dependent "stimulation secretion coupling mechanism".
