[Smoking in pregnancy].

Of a total of 1658 women, 11% had been smoking during pregnancy. The proportion of the prenatally dystrophic new-borns was statistically significantly higher in the group of smoking women compared to that of the non-smoking women.--Women smoking during gravidity have to be cared for by a risk service for pregnant women.

[Morphometric studies of the human placenta under the influence of sex steroids].

Placentas of different gestational age from women with oral contraception in the early phase of gravidity were studied morphometrically. An elevated risk for a placental insufficiency could not be found.

[Morphometric examinations of placenta in stillbirth].

A total of 10 placentas was examined morphometrically following fetal death in utero. In 8 placentas a reduced fetal vascular surface could be observed. In 2 cases the cause of death could be revealed neither clinically nor patho-anatomically, while morphometric investigations demonstrated considerable restrictions of the vascular surface of the villi. In addition to the usual histological placental diagnostics, the morphometric assessment of placentas is recommended.

[Relationship between morphometric placental studies and clinical biochemical findings in EPH-gestosis].

The relative fetal vascular surface established morphometrically in 22 gestosis placentas was clearly decreased compared to normal placentas. An accordance between the result of the DHEA-S-tolerance test and the relative fetal vascular surface was demonstrable in parts only. On the other hand, we, too, are able to confirm the results described in the literature that the restrictions of the fetal vascular surface correlate with the increase of the gestosis index.
