Responses of some cells in the cat cortex to moving stimulation depend on direction of motion. These cells give neither "on" nor "off" responses to uniform illumination. Response can be elicited over a wide region of the retina in either eye, and the discharge pattern does not follow the temporal variations in luminance on the retina which accompany the movement of the stimulus.

Red-green color discrimination by cats was demonstrated in a situation which effectively eliminated cues based on relative brightness. The persistence of the cat's response to cues based on brightness differences may help to account for the failure of previous experiments to show that cats can make behavioral color discriminations.

Data which represent the relation between modulation amplitude and frequency of a sinusoidally modulated light stimulus for constant flicker appearance have been employed to predict characteristics of rectangular waveforms which will be of the same flicker appearance. Predictions are compared with the results of an experiment in which such rectangular waveforms were employed.

Fechner colors are visible when two black and white photographs of a scene which have been taken with longwavelength and short-wavelength light, respectively, are viewed in an alternating sequence. Such colors may be combined with spatially induced, two-primary colors to enhance or reduce the vividness of the latter.
