Implant-osseous osteotomy for correction of the misaligned anterior maxillary implant.

The trend has been to use angled abutments to compensate for implants that have poor emergence profiles. This trend has resulted in increasing unfavorable forces being placed on the implant, poor soft tissue emergence and contours, or creation of areas that the patient cannot maintain properly. The end results are an esthetic compromise and ultimately implant failure. This case illustrates that a misplaced or misaligned integrated implant can be repositioned successfully within the maxillary alveolus. Careful treatment planning, flap design, and soft tissue manipulation must be considered to maintain the vascularity and integration within the implant-osseous segment as well as the soft tissue. The byproduct of maintaining vascular integrity is normal soft tissue morphology, especially of the interdental papillae (see Fig. 6).

Post-trauma replacement of maxillary central incisors utilizing implants: a case report.

The ability to maintain or create aesthetics in the maxillary anterior area without affecting the adjoining healthy teeth has been the primary reason for the popularity of implant utilization in the anterior single tooth restoration. This article presents a sequence of several traumatic incidences involving the maxillary incisors. The options considered for restoration are discussed and the reasons for implant selection explained. The surgical phase and tissue augmentation procedures are presented, and the need for a multidisciplinary approach is emphasized. The learning objective of this article is to share the observations and experience gained from the restoration of a rather unusual case of traumatic sequences.

Cosmetic dentistry and implant prosthetics.

It is our obligation to give our patients options so they can make decisions on what treatments they will pursue. Implants certainly provide us with a new set of tools to solve our patients' cosmetic and functional needs. Cosmetic and implant dentistry have both come a long way; the marriage of these two areas has elevated dentistry to a new plateau.
