We report a case of bladder-renal reflux in a patient with hereditary single kidney who had undergone three previous surgical corrections. The reflux was treated by simple extravesicle reimplantation.
OBJECTIVE: The possible relationship between herpes zoster and acute urinary retention was investigated. METHODS: Two cases of acute urinary retention secondary to herpes zoster are described. The pathophysiological mechanisms that influence this condition are analyzed. RESULTS: Herpes zoster appears to play an important role in the development of micturition disorders. CONCLUSIONS: Acute urinary retention can result from herpes zoster infection, although it usually resolves spontaneously.
We reviewed 9 cases of sarcomatoid carcinoma of the kidney from 233 cases of renal carcinoma that had undergone surgery over a period of 21 years (1970-1991). The principal characteristics (patient age, sex, diameter, clinical features, stage, grade, mitotic index, radiological features) were analyzed and compared with the rest of the series. This histological type is distinct from other types of renal carcinoma in that it carries a poor prognosis (with a mean survival of 6 months), it is usually diagnosed in the advanced stages, with a high mitotic index and tumor grade. It presents no special clinical and radiological features which make it distinct from the other histological types of renal carcinoma.
Review of 8 patients with retroperitoneal fibrosis treated in our unit, 7 between 1985 and 1990 and one secondary to chronic use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents diagnosed in 1980. In five patients no underlying reason was found and the remaining three were considered to be secondary (two to drugs and one to pelvic radiotherapy). Diagnostic and therapeutic approaches as well as patient's evolution are analyzed, also reviewing the existing literature.
