The developed method for detecting fingerprints on live human skin involves first fuming the suspected area with iodine, and then placing a 35-mm clear plastic strip with a leuco crystal violet coating and a trace of water over the fumed area. A few seconds later a dark purple reproduction of the ridge pattern develops. It is a stable direct positive and can be mounted in a 35-mm slide mount for direct viewing. Readable prints may be obtained up to 1 h after impression on live human skin and two or three lifts may be obtained from the same print.
Four retarded adults were exposed to a multiple variable interval-extinction schedule of reinforcement. The 2 min components were presented in a random order. Two subjects acquired the discrimination with an errorless procedure. The two other subjects learned the discrimination with errors. The schedule generated sequential contrast effects under both training procedures: response rates during periods of reinforcement were higher when a reinforcement period followed an extinction period than when it followed another reinforcement period. These results were confirmed in a second observation where eight retarded children were exposed to a multiple fixed ratio-extinction schedule of reinforcement. This study is the first demonstration of sequential contrast effects with human subjects during the acquisition of a discrimination without errors. The results are discussed in terms of Terrace's theory of errorless learning.

Four groups of retarded children (N = 4 in each group) were trained to respond to a triangle with apex up (S+) and not to a triangle with apex down (S-), with and without errors. A free-operant procedure in which responding to S+ was intermittently reinforced and a trial procedure in which all responses to S+ were reinforced were compared. An extinction procedure in which responses were no longer reinforced was then introduced. Extinction resulted in substantial responding during S- for all groups, except the free-operant errorless group. S- responding during extinction did not differ between the errorless and error-trial groups and was maximum for the free-operant error group.

Strongly basic anion-exchange resins form stable, water-insoluble combinations with triiodide ions. The combinations have remarkable antibacterial properties: 3.0 x 10(5)Escherichia coli cells per ml were killed when passed through a 3.8-g column of commercially available resin treated with triiodide (volume 4 ml after treatment). In an attempt to deplete the resin-triiodide complex, 1.14 x 10(9)E. coli cells in 15 liters were passed through the column with no significant loss of effectiveness. The antibacterial capabilities of the resin-triiodide columns ranged from 10(6)Salmonella typhimurium per ml to 1.1 x 10(4)Streptococcus faecalis per ml. Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were also tested and killed at concentrations of 1.8 x 10(4) and 1.3 x 10(5) per ml, respectively. The cells were not filtered from the water. They emerged from the column in nonviable form. This was demonstrated by using (14)C-labeled bacteria. The irreversible nature of the antibacterial action was revealed when attempts to wash the damaged cells did not restore viability.

12 mentally ill adults are involved in foot-ball training twice a week for eleven weeks. This study allows the observation of the psychomotor behaviour, the qualities of hearing, attention and interpersonal relationships in accordance with psychopathology of patients. This activity is included in the therapeutic program of the patient.
