Knee prop for knee surgery.

A simple, inexpensive, effective, sterilizable knee prop is described for use in the operating room. It allows placement of the knee in any position, using the operating table hydraulic mechanism in conjunction. It is small, compact, easily adjustable, and can be kept sterilized for easy access. Over thirty years of use have abundantly demonstrated its success.

Tips of the trade #3. Using a bone spreader for open fracture reduction.

The use of an accessory instrument in open reduction of long bone fractures is described. The long bone traction needed in the operating room for fracture reduction can be obtained using this method, eliminating the need for the customary pulling on the draped extremity. This technique has been used routinely for 35 years.

Subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis of the shoulder.

Etiologic relations of generally unconsidered causes of subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis of the shoulder are discussed. Use of the lidocaine (Xylocaine) test in evaluating and assessing as well as in determining the location of shoulder pain is described.

A perspective focus on the indicated surgical treatment of resistant clubfoot in the infant.

Ligamentous contracture is the chief factor in maintaining clubfoot deformity. Precise plans of segmental ligamentous release are called "selective segmental syndesmotomies." Critical segmental assessment by roentgenograms is required to choose the proper syndesmotomy. Proper early correction of resistant subtalar and midtarsal deformity by selective segmental syndesmotomy can solve much of the persistent trouble confronting the surgeon.
