On the nature of attachment in a borderline population: a preliminary investigation.

Analyses of interpersonal behavior within a borderline population usually focus on object relations variables. In contrast, this preliminary research focuses on the nature of attachment styles and its relation to behavioral pathology. 24 hospitalized borderline patients were administered an Attachment Style Inventory and Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory. Analysis confirms predicted differences in attachment style between the borderline and normal control samples as well as indicates that a dependent style of attachment within this borderline sample is associated with less pathology than an avoidant, hostile, or resistant/ambivalent style. The implications of this preliminary work for full-scale research are addressed.

Aberrant glandular polypi of the uterine cervix associated with contraceptive pills: pathology and pathogenesis.

Fifteen cases of aberrant polypoidal glandular hyperplasia of the cervix are described. The lesion was found in five pregnant patients. The remaining 10 patients had taken contraceptive pills over a considerable period of time. The lesion while histologically bizarre is benign, the changes being to a great extent cytoplasmic and not nuclear. It is suggested that it is formed by the influence of steroids on a cervix which is already pathological. It is further suggested that two changes are essential before steroids can have this effect. Polypoidal lesions must already be present and must exhibit reserve cell hyperplasia.
