[Role of sentinel lymph nodes in treatment of head and neck cancer].

Current points of view on significance of sentinel node biopsy in No-neck are presented and at the same time is pointed out the importance of this technique for the detection of occult cervical metastases. Methods of identification of the sentinel lymph nodes are described. Usefulness of the handheld gamma probe to determine the position of sentinel nodes during operative procedure was emphasised.

[The use of fibrin glue in otorhinolaryngology].

Biochemical and physiological principles of biological sealing are presented. Various methods of application of biological seal and indications for its use in otorhinolaryngology are discussed.

Fibrin Tissue Adhesive↗

[Thoracic duct cyst].

Patient aged 48 with the cyst of the cervical part of thoracic duct was described. Cyst appeared as the result of inflammation. Histopathological examination excluded the cystic lymphangioma.

[Acute fibromatosis from the standpoint of otolaryngology].

Aggressive fibromatosis in the otolaryngological region is a curious clinical entity, demanding accurate histopathologic interpretation. It is rare connective tissue tumor, which growth infiltratively with a destructive biological behaviour similar to malignant tumours and a high recurrence rate. Morphologically reactive fibromatosis and fibrosarcoma should be considered amongst others in differential diagnosis. CT and MR scans are useful in determining the extent of the tumors and help to distinguish the tumor from nerves, vessels and bone. Surgery is the treatment of choice. Our observations of the course of disease in the maxillary sinus, nasal cavity and nasopharynx confirmed the date in literature.

[Unasyn in perioperative prophylaxis in patients with laryngeal cancer].

In comparative examination of patients with larynx cancer, the authors evaluated the effectiveness of postoperative prophylactic treatment with Unasyn, which was administered to 25 patients who underwent total laryngectomy. Despite the very varied bacterial spectrum the usefulness and effectiveness of this preparation in preventing inflammatory complications of general and local character.

[Mucociliary transport in larynx affected with cancer].

Mucociliary transport in the subglottic space of 60 human larynges excised for ca was investigated using a marking substance--Sudan B. The reflex method was used for observations of ciliary activity. The video film and photographs were taken during observations. Mucociliary transport was demonstrable in subglottic space of 55% of investigated larynges. The direction of the transport was pathological, but invariable during observations. 37% of the larynges without transport showed ciliary activity. The presence and absence of the mucociliary transport was independent activity. The presence and absence of the mucociliary transport was independent of the location and the degree of the clinical progression. Analysis of the factors influencing on disturbances of mucociliary transport was carried out.

Carcinoma↗

[Mucociliary transport in the upper airways].

The current views of the ciliary function of the respiratory epithelium are presented. Mucociliary transport in the nose, maxillary atrium, frontal sinus, middle ear and the eustachian tube are discussed.

[A case of recurrent inflammation of ear cartilage].

The clinical course of the recurrent auricle cartilage inflammation was described. In Polish literature there were only 4 cases published. The etiopathogenesis, symptomatology and treatment were described.
