Types of interventricular septal branches of the anterior interventricular branch of the left coronary artery in human hearts.

The study aimed at determining types of interventricular septal branches stemming from the anterior interventricular branch of the left coronary artery. The studies were performed on 28 preparations of human heart aging 29 to 88 years. The technique of direct preparation was applied using a dissecting microscope. The conducted observations indicate that septal vessels of the anterior interventricular branch follow one of the three main patterns. Type I involves a dominant septal trunk, exhibiting its own branching and few fine septal branches, type II exhibits a single dominant unbranched ramus and multiple fine branches, while type III includes two dominant, unbranched septal rami of the septum and small number of fine septal branches. In the cases examined by us type III pattern was most frequent. No relationship was detected between the type of coronary vessels of the heart and the type of septal vessels of the anterior interventricular branch.

Blood vessels of epineurium of ischaidic nerve in the man.

Blood vessels were examined within epineurium of 38 ischiadic nerves from corpses of men and women aging 26 to 65 years. The studies demonstrated that large eyeholed and fine meshed vascular plexuses are formed in both components of ischiadic nerve. The plexus maintain communication with axial arterial and venous vessels which run in the outer layer of epineurium and with interfascicular vessels located in connective tissue of interfascicular epineurium.

Nutrient arteries of the human sciatic nerve.

The sources of blood supply of the human sciatic nerve were investigated in 32 nerves from 28 cadavers (16 men and 12 women). It was shown that the sciatic nerve is supplied by 4-8 nutrient arteries arising from inferior gluteal, medial circumflex femoral, perforating and popliteal arteries.

Attempt to reconstruct body stature basing on circumferences of long bones in fossil body remains.

Studies were conducted on long bones from Middle Ages row cemetery in Milicz (Wrocław voivodship). Basing on measurements of trunc length in humerus, radius, ulna, femur, tibia and fibula as well as on measurements of circumferences of the truncs, simple correlation coefficients were calculated. The correlation coefficients were used to formulate regression equation permitting to reconstruct bone length from corresponding circumference in cases when epiphysis was destroyed. When applied appropriately, the method may be used to reconstruct length of long bones and the entire stature of extinct population members.

Sources of blood supply and angioarchitecture of nerves in limbs of the white rat.

Sources of blood supply and structure of vascular network were described in nerves of forelimbs and hindlimbs of 30 Wistar strain rats. The vessels were injected through the left ventricle of the heart with aqueous solution of gelatin, stained with black ink. Following fixation in formaldehyde samples were taken at various points of the median, ulnar, radial, musculocutaneous, femoral, nerves and their terminal branches. The preparations were made translucent in methyl benzoate. The observations point to constant sources of regional vessels supplying nerves of forelimbs and hindlimbs and to a similar angioarchitecture of studied nerve trunks at their entire length. Branches of regional vessels which enter the nerves form a fine mesh network in epineurium. Within nerve fascicles capillary network forms a uniform cord of vessels, the structure of which resembles that of human sciatic nerve.

Studies on density of capillary network in the course of nerves in the white rat.

Density of capillary network was examined in the course of nerves of frontal and rear extremities in the white rat, in various portions of the nerves. At the same levels, number of nervous fibers per mm2 of the area was scored as well as diameters of myelinated fibers was recorded in proximal and distal fragments of chosen nerves. Decreased density of capillary network was detected in peripheral portions of the nerves, which was paralleled by an increase in number of myelinated fibers and a decrease in their diameter.

[Effect of a mechanical insufficiency of lymph outflow from the uterus on the course of pregnancy in rats under experimental conditions].

For lack of literature data studies of disturbed lymph outflow on pregnancy and foetus development in rats were accomplished. The studies were carried out on matured female inbred Wistar rats. In experimental group a mechanical insufficiency of lymph outflow from pregnant uterus was performed by means of ligature of lymphatics and excision of regional lymph nodes (i.e. lumbar, sacral and renal lymph nodes). The control groups were sham-operated and normal pregnant animals. Surgical procedures were performed at first day of pregnancy (determined by means of spermatozoa presence in vaginal smears). Animal were examined on 7th and 17th day of pregnancy and at delivery. The results from sham-operated group were identical with normal pregnant animals. In experimental group of 17th day of pregnancy was a lower number of foetuses, greater total number of resorption places, lower mean weight of placenta and foetus, higher mean placental-foetal ratio and longer duration of pregnancy compared with control groups. In delivery group it was obtained a lower mean weight of a new-born rat than in control group. The difference between values obtained in experimental group and values obtained in control group had a statistical significance. The estimation of obtained results allowed to draw a conclusion: the mechanical insufficiency of lymph outflow from uterus can has a negative influence for course of pregnancy and development of foetus in rats.

[Evaluation of somatic development of children brought up in state child tutorial homes of the Katowice province].

Studies were aimed at assessing somatic development of children and youth deprived of familial homes and brought up a State Child Tutorial Homes (SCTH) in the Katowice voivodeship. After somatometric examinations of 588 boys and girls aged between 7-18 years, brought up at 20 SCTH, 13 traits were analysed statistically. Results of measurements were compared with the data for analogous all-Polish populations, prepared and published by the Department of Anthropology, Polish Academy of Sciences, in Wrocław. Mean values of the differences between both groups in the major part of traits showed that children brought up at SCTH were greatly inferior to their co-equals of the reference group. In all age groups, the bone measurements, particularly the longitudinal ones (stature and lower extremities), displayed the greatest differences. This differentiation was much slighter for the traits related to chest structure and circumference of the extremities. Skin-fold thickness did not in the younger age groups differ from that exhibited by the reference population, whereas in the older groups the differences increased in favour of the children brought up at SCTH under doubtless inferior living conditions. According to the present results, children brought up at SCTH in the Katowice voivodeship differ significantly from the all-Polish population in their developmental indices. Apart from displaying lower values of the major part of the investigated traits, they are characterized by more marked obesity manifesting itself by a greater total skin-fold thickness.

Septal branches of right coronary artery as a source of blood supply to interventricular septum in morphological and clinical studies.

The aim of this article was to investigate septal branches of the right coronary artery in order to create both their typologies and to evaluate the usefulness of the vessels mentioned above for revascularisation procedures on the interventricular heart septum. The clinical studies were performed on 58 human hearts aged 28-80. Technical method of direct preparation, corrosive preparation and coronarographic picture assessment. The tests showed that the number of septal branches ranged from 5 to 11, their diameter from 0.7 to 1.2 mm. There were no main trunk or vessels with different dimensions than other arteries. Creation of septal vascularisation model was not possible because of rapid changes in studied vessels, their distribution and small diameters (about 1 mm) disqualifying them for direct revascularised operations on interventricular heart septum.
