[Evaluation of a technique for determining blood ethanol levels by gas chromatography. Committee for "determination of blood ethanol levels"].

Art. R.24-1 of the Code governing distribution of beverages and preventive measures against alcoholism: "If the verifications are performed following a traffic accident having occurred under the conditions provided at article L.88 of the present code or in application of articles L.1 and L.3 of the traffic code, the requesting authority keeps a copy of form A and sends: 1. The first blood specimen samples, along with four copies of forms A, B and C, to a laboratory of an establishment part of the public hospital system as defined at article 3 of law n. 70-1318 of December 31 1970 or to an expert biologist registered on the list held by the court of appeals as provided by article R.32 of the code governing distribution of beverages and preventive measures against alcoholism; 2. The second sample, along with one copy of forms A, B and C, to another expert biologist registered on the same list and in charge of eventually performing a control analysis. The laboratory or the expert biologist having performed the analysis reports the results on forms C and forwards one copy of forms A, B and C directly, under separate cover and stamped confidential to the competent Procureur de la Republique, to the region in which the misdemeanor or the accident occurred. The results reported on the form are immediately transmitted to the requesting authority.

[Influence of idrocilamide on the metabolism of theophylline].

The pharmacokinetics of theophylline as a sirup (5 or 6 mg . kg-1 bodyweight) were studied in 6 volunteers before and after association with idrocilamide. The results showed an increase in theophylline half-life, a decrease in clearance and a slight decrease in volume of distribution.

[Microanalysis of plasma isoniazid and acetylisoniazid by high performance liquid chromatography].

A method for the analysis of isoniazid and acetylisoniazid in plasma or serum has been developed. This report describes a simple, quick and economically optimized reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic assay using a small sample size without solvent extraction step. Isoniazid was condensed with cinnamic aldehyde after trichloroacetic acid deproteinisation. The method correlated well with a fluorimetric procedure. Precision, sensibility and accuracy were good. Common antituberculous drugs did not interfere.

[Manual method of assaying plasma hemoglobin by tetramethylbenzidine and deferoxamine].

We describe a manual method to determine very low concentrations of hemoglobin in plasma (0,25 to 37,3 mumol/l). We use peroxidase properties of hemoglobin which decomposes hydrogen peroxide releasing oxygen. This released oxygen will oxidize tetramethylbenzidine. The original feature of the proposed method lies in the stabilization of the obtained colour by a complexing agent, the deferoxamine. The technique is quick, reliable, cheap and does not need specialized equipment. It is possible to use the method for urines.

[Microassay of epsilon-aminocaproic acid by liquid chromatography].

A method for the analysis of epsilon aminocaproic acid in plasma or serum has been developed. This report describes a simple and rapid assay with a small sample (20 microliter) by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography. The supernatant is derivatized with fluorescamine after acetonitrile deproteinisation. Linearity, sensibility and accuracy are good. Save time extraction allows quick determination of many samples.

[Microassay of plasma isoniazid by high performance liquid chromatography].

The authors propose a technique for the assay of isoniazid (INH) using inverted phase high performance liquid chromatography. The plasma INH is condensed with cinnamic aldehyde after deproteinization with trichloracetic acid. The authors confirmed the absence of interference with other anti-tuberculous drugs. The technique is very fast and simple to perform.

[Rapid determination of valproic acid using instantaneous silylation].

We propose a technique for measuring valproic acid using gas phase chromatography with a OV1 column, classically used for steroid assays. The valproic acid is extracted directly from the plasma by either from a small test sample (200 microliters). The silylation is performed instantaneously at the level of the injector. The accuracy and precision of the method are excellent; there is no interference with other anti-convulsants. The technique is simple, very rapid and not expensive; it should find a wide application in routine practice.
