[Rhabdomyosarcoma of the thoracic wall in an adult. Apropos of a case].

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a malignant tumour generally observed in children or adolescents; thoracic localization is rare. The authors report a case of embryonary rhabdomyosarcoma of the thoracic wall in a 36-year-old subject. Pathology examination of surgical specimens confirmed the diagnosis. Treatment included surgical exeresis together with pre- and post-operative chemotherapy combining doxorubicine (40 mg/m2/cycle), ifosfamide (6 g/m2/cycle) and dacarbazine (900 mg/m2/cycle). Local recurrence, requiring radiotherapy, was observed a few months later and led to the patient's death after a 9-month clinical course.

[Pulmonary toxicity of bleomycin in the rabbit: histophysiological and anatomo-radiological correlations].

This work was made to study the eventual modifications of breathing pattern induced by an experimental interstitial fibrosis. In this aim, breathing pattern and lung radiology from 6 rabbits have been studied at different times (1, 3, 7, 15, 20, 45 days) after an intratracheal infusion of Bleomycin (7 U.kg-1). At the end of each observation period, a rabbit was killed and prepared for a pathologic study (light and electronic microscopy). Despite the early interstitial and alveolar radiologic syndrome, there is no significant modification of the breathing pattern. However the histologic study is in agreement with the radiologic pictures and reveals an early development of large exsudative injury with hyaline membranes, interstitial and alveolar oedema. The alterations trend to an interstitial diffuse fibrosis. The absence of correlations between the physiological and histological events is discussed.

[Infant encephalopathies with rapid EEG rhythms. Apropos of 2 cases].

The authors report two cases of infant encephalopathies with psychomotor retardation. The cerebrospinal fluid, the electroretinogram, the electromyogram and the motor conduction velocity are normal. The neuromuscular cutaneous conjunctival biopsies are normal. No biochemical abnormalities are found. The electroencephalogram presents continuous high voltage fast rhythms (250-400 microV) with reduced or absent evoked responses. Early infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy and lissencephaly are suggested.

Comparison of the metabolism of oltipraz in the mouse, rat and monkey and in man. Distribution of the metabolites in each species.

4-Methyl-5-(2-pyrazinyl)-1,2-dithiole-3-thione (35 972 R.P., oltipraz) and its metabolites were extracted from human urine and from mouse, rat and monkey urine using Amberlite XAD4 resin. The metabolites were identified by GLC, TLC and HPLC and isolated by preparative TLC or HPLC. The structures of 11 compounds were determined by spectroscopic examination (MS, IR, NMR). Six of the principal metabolites isolated in sufficient quantity from human urine were administered to the mouse, confirming the metabolic pathways of oltipraz.

[Acute post-gravidic Budd-Chiari syndrome. One case (author's transl)].

The sixth case of post-gravidic Budd-Chiari syndrome is reported. In the acute stage of the disease heparin seems to have given immediate favourable results, and the value of long-term heparin treatment is discussed. Post-mortem findings seven years after the acute episode confirmed the evolution towards a certain type of cirrhosis characterized by macroscopically and histologically heterogenous lesions and by persistent liver congestion. Portal hypertension was associated with arterialization of the portal vein and considerable dilatation of the right diaphragmatic veins. The venous drainage of the liver had undergone complex alterations: the supra-hepatic veins were affected with fairly recent incomplete ostial thrombosis, many intra-hepatic veins were reduced to a vestigial reticulum and others were the seat of recent or old re-canalized thrombosis. Cancerous transformation was found to be present in the larger hepatic nodules.
