[Pseudarthrosis of the lower end of the radius due to interposition of the long extensor of the thumb].

The authors describe one case of a severely displaced Smith's fracture which was originally immobilised by external fixation. Three month's later the fracture had not united and active extension of the thumb was absent. At operation, the extensor pollicis longus tendon was found to be dislocated into the fracture site. The tendon was repaired and the non-union was treated by plating. A review of the literature discovered only one other similar case.

[Systematic hip roentgenograms in infants of 4 months of age in the screening for congenital dislocation of the hip (author's transl)].

The authors report the results of a statistical study undertaken for the screening of congenital dislocation of the hip. 961 children born between September 24, 1977 and June 30, 1978 were examined. Congenital dislocation of the hip was diagnosed in 9 (0.9 % of the cases). Out of these, 4 had no clinical sign of dislocatability at birth. The only determination of acetabular angles cannot be relied upon and qualitative criteria such as ilium thickness must be added.

[Congenital dislocation of the hip treated by the Somerville technique at the age of walking. A long term review].

Sixty congenital dislocations of the hip in thirty seven children had been treated at the age of walking by the Somerville-Petit technique between 1958 and 1961. The results have been reviewed after the end of bone maturation. The results were assessed using Severin's criteria, including the Wiberg C E angle and the morphological appearances of the acetabulum and the femoral epiphysis. Nearly all the hips had at least one residual defect; less than two thirds could be described as satisfactory. The radiological study show minimal change after the age of ten. The authors conclude that the results of the technique are deceptive and they now practise, more systematically, Salter osteotomy or triple osteotomy with the expectation of better final results.

[Fibrous dysplasia of long bones with remission. Apropos of 3 cases].

Three cases of fibrous dysplasia of bone, affecting the long bones of the leg are described. This condition is a clearly defined radiological and clinical entity. The tibial lesion is reminiscent of a congenital pseudarthrosis but the involvement of the fibula is a useful diagnostic clue. The most important feature of the condition is that it heals spontaneously.
