Injection of d-tubocurarine chloride into certain insects produces complete flaccid paralysis. The site of injection is closely related to the region of primary paralysis. The effect depends on concentration, with distinct differences in the optimum concentrations for various species so far tested. A dose-response curve has been prepared for Calliphora erythrocephala.

The widespread use of phenytoin results in frequent accidental and intentional toxicity. Metabolism is enzymatic and can be described by Michaelis-Menten kinetics. This results in an increased half-life in overdose situations and a protracted clinical course which may last a week or more. The primary toxicity is on the central nervous system. The most common initial finding in mild toxicity is nystagmus. As concentrations increase ataxia, decreased coordination, hyper-reflexia, slurred speech and diplopia may develop. Progressive increases result in confusion, lethargy and coma. Various methods tried to increase elimination including dialysis, haemoperfusion, diuresis and plasmaphoresis have been ineffective and are not without risk. Meticulous supportive care including ventilation if necessary should provide a good clinical outcome. Multiple-dose activated charcoal may be helpful in shortening the duration of symptoms.

Palp-antenna is a homeotic mutant of Aedes aegypti that modifies the apex of the maxillary palps of both sexes into a variable number of antenna-like segments. The fine structure of the antenna, including sexual dimorphism, is apparent in the mutant palps. Palp-antenna is a sex-linked recessive. a linkage distance of 27.9 +/- 0.45 crossover units from sex is estimated from F2 and backcross data. Penetrance is complete; expressively is variable. The fitness of the mutant compares favorably with that of the wild type. The mapping of the ppa locus lengthens the known chromosome 1 linkage map of Aedes aegypti.
