An anatomical study was conducted to evaluate the emergence of spinal roots at different levels and their relation to the intervertebral foramena. A percutaneous needle was then inserted in the direction of these roots and their contact studied under direct vision and by X-rays. These results were compared with those obtained in 50 patients who underwent spinal rhizotomies. There is a direct correlation between the anatomy at different levels and the quality of relief obtained after surgery.
15 patients with pain secondary to cancer underwent radiofrequency glossopharyngeal rhizotomy by the percutaneous approach. 11 patients had complete relief while 4 patients had partial relief. All patients presented, after surgery, some impairment in glossopharyngeal function.
A case of calcified choroid plexus papilloma in a 7 years old child is reported. The radiologic findings are discussed.
