Relationship between fluoride content in bones and the age in European elk (Alces alces L.).

The relation between fluoride content in bones (jaws) and the age of elks living in Poland in areas of relatively low pollution by industrial emissions was studied. Multiple regression analysis was performed by making use of 11 mathematical models. The relationship between fluoride content in bones and the animals age is best described by square root and linear models.

The urinary excretion of 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycól in acute myocardial infarction.

Urinary excretion of 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), noradrenaline, adrenaline and vanillylmandelic acid (VMA) was studied in 30 patients with acute myocardial infarction. The excretion of MHPG was higher in patients with myocardial infarction than in the control group, with no difference between uncomplicated and complicated courses of the disease. The excretion of MHPG showed a negative although not significant correlation with noradrenaline and VMA during the first days of infarction and a statistically significant positive correlation on the 5th day of the disease. The possible causes of the changes observed are discussed.

Comparative examination of the pulse of both right and left carotid arteries.

The technique of CRESG secured on both arteries simultaneously is applied as a noninvasive diagnostic tool. A group of 42 persons (healthy and patients, 7 females and 35 males) aged 19--66 years was examined. In 14 of them X-ray angiography and in 5 of these 14 cases the additional surgical procedure confirmed the diagnosis. A difference of less than or equal to 10% between left and right upstroke time is shown in all subjects with decreased distensibility and signifies a generalized atherosclerotic process in all central arteries. Greater asymetry in bilateral CRESG is caused by a local more pronounced left/right arterial lesion. It is concluded that simultaneous left/right CRESG help to differentiate between generalized and localized arterial lesions.
