[Liver hydatidosis in an eight-year-old child].

The first pediatric case of hepatic hydatidosis diagnosed in Mexico is reported. Previous to surgery, the diagnosis was established, based on a cystic tumor of the liver, the X ray findings, defects in the liver uptake, eosinophilia and Casoni's positive intradermal reaction. Besides, the immunoelectrophoresis test showed specific antibodies. Clinical and epidemiological considerations, related with the pathology and treatment of hydatidic disease are made, stressing the importance to know the symtoms of the illness, in order to establish the diagnosis and treatment. Likewise, the prognosis is evaluated considering the remaining cysts of the liver and the possible seeding of the parasite into the peritoneal cavity. Pertinent literature on the subject is reviewed.

[Bezoars in childhood].

Hospital Infantil de México reports 13 cases of bezoars out of which, 12 were trichobezoars and one fitobezoar. Bezoars are uncommon, but they must be known by the pediatrician as well as by the children surgeon in order to be able to reach a diagnosis and give the treatment. A complete review of the main points is given.

[Duplication of the left testicle and cryptorchidism (report of a case)].

A case of duplication of the left testicle with right testicular agenesia is reported in a 7 years-old-boy in whom the diagnosis was made at the operation. Analysis of this clinical entity is made, together with the embryologic concepts that are suspected of producing this contingency. Considerations are also made on the prognosis as related to fertility in the subject and the respective literature is reviewed.

[Elongation of the columella in patients with bilateral [abial fissure].

The results of secondary nasal tip elongation in bilateral cleft lip were analyzed. Brown and Mc Dowell's, Cronin and Millard's techniques, were used in thirty-five patients, who were seen at the Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic at the Hospital Infantil de Mexico for a five year period (1970-1975). Such correction was performed in 16 patients following Brown and Mc Dowell's technique, 10 by Millard, 8 by Cronin's and just one by Abbe Stlander's technique. 60% of the patients were males and 40% were females. The follow-up control (5 years) was made in 30 patients; the results are shown.

[Relationships between thyrotropin, growth hormone and insulin in hypothyroidism].

Since growth hormone has been found to be inhibited in many cases of untreated primary hypothyroidism, we tried to investigate whether the high thyrotropin levels or the lack of thyroid hormones is the responsible factor. Six primary hypothyrotic patients were kept euthyroid by means of high and constant doses of thyroid extract. Growth hormone immunoassays were performed before and after three days of thyrotropin stimulation. Immunoassayable insulin was also investigated under the same experimental conditions. Although a moderate inhibition of growth hormone after thyrotopin stimulation was observed, the magnitude of this inhibition was not as marked as it has bee described in untreated primary hypothyrotics. There was no difference in insulin production before and after thyrotropin administration.

[A case of intestinal trichobezoar].

Report is made of a case of an unusual localization of a trichobezoar in a 12 year-old girl, who presented vomiting and abdominal pain as chief complaints. She was found to have an 18 X 5 cm palpable abdominal mass, which upon surgery was localized in terminal ileum and in the pathology report was found to be a trichobezoar. The interest of this case is the unusual localization of a single bezoar and the fact that a resection of 25 cm. of small bowel had to be done, as it was found necrotic at the time of surgery.
