[Adrenal hemangioma: review of the literature].

Hemangiomas are rarely encountered in the adrenal gland. Only 48 surgical cases of adrenal hemangioma have been reported, with four additional cases not surgically treated. Literature has been reviewed, including Japanese, which had not been done up to now. One additional case removed surgically is presented herein. The only 4 cases of hemangiosarcoma reported in the literature are included, although no relation has been described between benign and malignant vascular tumors. Comment includes definition, classification, clinical aspects, diagnostic procedures, complications and treatment.

[Inverted papilloma of the prostatic urethra. Histopathogenetic considerations].

We present a rare case of inverted papilloma of the prostatic ureter whose presenting features were gross hematuria and variable dysuria. Endoscopy revealed a polypoid appearance with a fine pedicle arising from the prostatic urethra. Treatment was by transurethral resection of the neoformation. The diagnosis was made on the histopathological findings. The different histopathogenic considerations published in the literature are discussed.

[Adenomatoid tumor of the epididymis: report of a new case].

We report an additional case of adenomatoid tumor of the epididymis, an uncommon benign intrascrotal tumor. The aspects concerning its embryological origin and the different hypotheses that have been put forward relative to its etiology are discussed.

[Bladder involvement in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Diagnosis and therapeutic response].

Presentation of one case of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in a 76 year-old, female patient presenting with giant abdominal mass, secondary tumoral vesical infiltration and bilateral obstructive uropathy diagnosed by UIV, CAT and cystoscopy-biopsy. Transitory deobstruction with 'pig-tail' catheter allowed administration of therapy with multiple chemotherapy with excellent response. The radiological, endoscopic and histopathological findings, as well as the incidence of the uncommon vesical pathologies are reviewed.

[Eosinophilic cystitis as a special form of response to mitomycin C. Analysis and comments on our cases].

We analyzed 29 cases of eosinophilic cystitis in a group of 80 patients with lower urothelial carcinoma who had been treated with mitomycin-C. Only 6 cases (20.7%) had presented symptoms and signs compatible with acute cystitis. The remaining patients had been diagnosed histopathologically by routine follow-up bladder biopsy. Urine cytology revealed abundant eosinophils in 58.6% of the patients with eosinophilic cystitis while urine culture was negative for all patients. No patient had a previous history of allergy or asthma. We discuss the possible etiopathogenic mechanisms of this rare nosologic entity, the relationship to the immune system and the role of the foregoing in the capacity to control urothelial carcinoma locally.

[Therapeutic and diagnostic ureterorenoscopy. Analysis of the procedure and results].

The present study reports our experience with URS. With this procedure, we have achieved results similar to those reported in the literature. Of a total of 97 URS procedures, 12 cases (17.5%) presented minor complications which resolved with conservative treatment. One patient presented ureteral perforation, a major complication that warranted open surgery. No renal unit was lost. The procedure permitted accurate diagnosis in all of the cases with a doubtful ureteric pathology. The foregoing demonstrates its high sensitivity and specificity.

[Plasmocellular balanoposthitis of Zoon].

Plasma cell balinitis of Zoon is a well-defined and easily-recognized disease entity that is little-known in urology. Our clinical experience in 5 cases is reported herein. The uncommon presentation of this condition in a 12-year-old patient is underscored. The clinical picture, gross features of the typical erythroplastic plaque, the differential diagnosis with special reference to Queyrat's erythroplasia, and the characteristic histologic features are described. Our experience confirms the inefficacy of topical treatment with antiseptic agents and corticosteroids. Circumcision is still the only effective treatment of this disease.

[Prostatic abscesses: percutaneous treatment].

Three cases of prostatic abscess diagnosed in our service in the past year are reported. The current treatment of this disease entity and the changes observed relative to the pathogenic flora of prostatic abscess in certain groups at risk today are discussed. All three cases underwent percutaneous transperineal debridement of the purulent collection. An 8 Fr silicone catheter was left indwelling in the residual cavity of the abscess to permit lavage with povidone-iodine solution during the first 3 or 4 days post-operatively. At one week, the abscess had completely resolved in all of the cases as evidenced by the ultrasound control. E. coli was isolated in two patients with diabetes and Staph. aureus was isolated in an HIV-positive intravenous drug addict who also had renal abscess from Candida albicans.

[Undifferentiated small cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder. Clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical study].

Small cell carcinoma of the bladder ("oat cell") is a very uncommon tumor. Its sudden onset, rapid progression to an often fatal outcome and early metastatic spread are the main clinical features of this tumor. Immunohistochemical staining for neuroendocrine markers is positive in a large number of cases. A case of small cell carcinoma of the bladder is described. The clinical course of the patient, as well as the histopathological and immunohistochemical findings are presented.
