Pharmacologic adjunctive therapy for acute myocardial infarction.
Thrombolysis and PTCA offer reperfusion for limiting infarct size and reducing mortality in acute myocardial infarction patients. Heparin, aspirin, nitrates, beta-blockers and calcium antagonists are very important in supplementing these two primary reperfusion modes. The adjunctive role of these five pharmacologic agents is discussed.
