[Transplantation antigen specific rosette test and its inhibition with autologous serum--a new immunologic method for predicting rejection crisis following allogeneic organ transplantation].

A combination of transplantation-antigen-specific rosette test with inhibition of rosette formation, using autologous serum, was used in postoperative follow-up checks on patients who had undergone allogeneic kidney transplantation and proved successful in early diagnosis or prediction of rejection episodes even before clinical manifestation. The numbers of antigen-detecting and antigen-binding cells differed considerably from each other, depending on patients who had undergone kidney transplantation. Almost complete inhibition of antigen detection was generally achieved by addition of patient serum. If sensitization to alloantigen in excess of the limit value (30 RBZ/10(3) KHZ) is accompanied by rosette formation with autologous serum addition in excess of about 18 RBZ/10(3) KHZ, clinically relevant rejection can be expected to occur after another two or three days and will have to be treated by immunosuppressives. Such partial or even complete elimination of rosette inhibition is usually only of short length (one day) and has rarely been observed to last longer. No rejection calling for treatment will develop, on the other hand, as long as blocking serum factors provide for high-stability inhibition of any bond of transplantation antigen (rosette formation). Constantly low rosette formation with serum addition and without was exhibited by control persons (blood donors, patients with cerebrocranial trauma) in daily examinations. Limit values of 18 or 30 RBZ/10(3) KHZ were not surpassed.

[Symptomatology of intracranial vascular ectasias].

The ectasia of intracranial arteries shows a versatile neurological picture containing all symptoms from paraphrased deficiency of brain nerves and vegetative imbalances until the suspicion of a tumor cerebri. Two cases of our own are represented and compared with data in literature also referring on their etiology.

[Problem of diagnostic muscle tissue removal: biopsy, preparation and preservation].

Intensive professional cooperation of all diagnostical branches needed incl. surgery is presupposition for the investigation of muscle biopsies. Knowledge needed on diagnostic clearing in advance and correct determination of kinds of biopsy as well as careful detraumatic taking of tela have decisive influence on the statement value of the result of investigation techniques concerning fine-tela. Muscle biopsies should be made exclusively at such places where the technical basis is available for optimum investigation and preparation.

Hormone interactions in the Sertoli cells.

The effects of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and testosterone in rat Sertoli cells were investigated in vitro by means of isolated cell populations. The Sertoli cells selectively bind FSH, and respond to FSH stimulation with increased accumulation of endogenous cyclic AMP and secretion of androgen-binding protein (ABP). FSH binding and cyclic AMP response in the Sertoli cells change dramatically during sexual maturation. Cyclic AMP response decreases despite an increase in FSH-binding receptors per cell. Evidence has been provided for the existence of cytoplasmic and nuclear androgen receptors and chromatin acceptor-sites that specifically bind the androgen-receptor complex in the Sertoli cells. A model has been proposed for the hormonal interactions in the seminiferous tubule and the possible role of Sertoli cells in mediating the hormonal effects on spermatogenesis.

[Gastric motility and selective proximal vagotomy (SPV)].

In the era of selective vagotomy the gastric motility is increasingly important. Measuring methods are demonstrated as to electromyography, intraluminal pressure measuring, measuring of emptying using isotope labeled food, and serial X-ray technique with amplifier photography. Measurings were performed in 12 patients, before and 4 months after selective proximal vagotomy. The bioelectric gastric activity is hardly influenced by selective proximal vagotomy. Enhanced antral peristalsis (tonic and peristaltic contraction) and delayed emptying are observed in cases without pyloroplasty. The authors therefore recommend that preoperative examination of motility in combination with intraoperative findings should indicate the pyloroplasty.

[The function of innervated kidneys during stimulation of the carotid chemoreceptors under constant renal perfusion pressure].

The carotid chemoreceptors of narcotized, vagotomized and spontaneously breathing hydropenic cats in hypertonic mannite diuresis were stimulated by perfusion with venous blood penic cats in hypertonic mannite diuresis were stimulated by perfusion with venous blood for 70 min. Elevation of blood pressure at the innervated kidneys was prevented by an automatically controlled balloon located within the aorta. Stimulation of the chemoreceptors intensified respiration and raised the arterial systemic pressure. With the renal arteries at constant pressure, the effective renal plasma flow and the glomerular filtration rate significantly declined. The filtration fraction remained unchanged. The absolute urinary and sodium excretion did not change significantly, whereas the fractional time-volume, fractional sodium excretion, and the fractional osmotic excretion significantly increased. The fractional tubular reabsorption of osmotically free water was significantly enhanced. These reactions subsided during subsequent perfusion of the glomerula carotici with arterial blood. The results suggest that tubular sodium reabsorption is inhibited by stimulation of the carotid chemoreceptors, although re-adjustment of renal perfusion and filtrate volume cannot be excluded.
