Structures of three new isoprenylated xanthones, cudraxanthones e, f, and g 1,2.

Three new isoprenylated xanthones, cudraxanthones E, F, and G along with a known xanthone, 6-deoxyisojacareubin, were isolated from the ethanol extract of the root bark of CUDRANIA TRICUSPIDATA (Moraceae), collected in China. The structures of cudraxanthones E, F, and G were shown to be 1-3, respectively, on the basis of spectral evidence.

Structures of four new isoprenylated xanthones, cudraxanthones h,i,j, and k1,2.

Four new isoprenylated xanthones, cudraxanthone H,I,J, and K were isolated from the ethanol extract of the root bark of CUDRANIA TRICUSPIDATA (Carr.) Bur. (Moraceae), collected in China. The structures of cudraxanthones H,I,J, and K were shown to be 1- 4, respectively, on the basis of chemical and spectral evidence.

[Foramen arcuale and vertigo].

From 1985 to 1989, 923 patients with cervical syndrome were treated; and among them, 69 complained chiefly of vertigo, somewhat like Barre-Lieou syndrome. Out of their X-ray films, those of the 69 patients showed foramen arcuale on the posterior arch of atlas, an incidence of 7.4%; and so it was, unilateral or bilateral, proved by operative findings. The foramen arcuale, being either a complete ring or a incomplete ring, restricted or compressed the vertebral artery passing through. Excision of the foramen arcuale and sympathectomy done on this artery released the vessel and freed the patient from symptoms up to time of the writing. Diagnostic criteria are tabulated, operative procedures described and related matters discussed in the paper. It is emphasized that the foramen arcuale must be excised completely and sympathectomy should be performed on the vertebral artery under view for cure.

[Studies on the adherent factors of Pseudomonas aeruginosa with bioluminescence].

A bioluminescence method was established for quantifying the adhesion of P. aeruginosa to polystyrene and the adherent components were investigated. The results indicated that the slime polysaccharide (SPS) is an important adherent factor of some slime strains of P. aeruginosa. The adhered amount of washed slime strains could be increased by pre-coating of polystyrene with SPS obtained from PA3. The activity of PA3SPS could be inhibited by anti-PA3SPS antiserum and blocked by N-acetylglucosamine.
