[The types of the mandibular canal].

The purpose of the present study was to determine after studying 700 panoramic radiographs, the incidence of the various types of the mandibular canal and their relationship to sex. Our results indicate that in descending order of frequency of occurrence type III (the canal is located close to the lower border of the mandible) is the most common, followed by the type II (the canal is noted between the apices of the first and second molars and the lower border of the mandible) and the type I (the canal is in close contact with the apices of the first and the second molars). Only three cases showed bifid mandibular canal. There was no statistical significance between sex and types of the mandibular canal. There was topographical difference between the left and the right side in 19.86% of the cases.

[Topographic evaluation of the impacted mandibular third molar. Radiographic study].

Preoperative planning of surgical extraction of a wisdom tooth is always necessary. Accurate evaluation of its position and relation to the other surrounding anatomical structures is facilitated by radiographic examination. Nine hundred sixty one radiographs of patients who came to the clinic of Exodontia and Radiology were used. Of these radiographs one thousand hundred thirty six impacted and partially impacted mandibular third molars and its relation to the second molar and the anterior border of the ramus were studied. The distance between the anterior border of the ramus and the posterior surface of the second molar in comparison to the crown diameter of the studied wisdom tooth was equal in 12.68 percent, smaller in 66.55 percent (P less than 0.0001) and larger in 20.77 percent. Most of the impacted third molars were located mesio angularly (42.34%, P less than 0.0001), 21.13% were vertical, 20.60% horizontal and 2.73% lingo-angular.

[Incidence of double mental foramen in a sample of Greek population].

The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of the double mental foramen in a sample of Greek population. Four hundred sixty four dry human mandibles were studied two hundred thirty referred to men and two hundred thirty four to women. Double mental foramen were found in 6.68% per cent of the cases (6.95% women and 6.41% in men). There was no statistical significance between sex and this kind of entity.

[Position of the mandibular foramen in relation to the width of the ramus and the gonial angle of the mandible].

The aim of this study was to investigate the position of the mandibular foramen in relation to the width of the ramus and the gonial angle of the mandible. One hundred fourty-two dry human mandibles of adults were used. It was found that only the size of the gonial angle affects the anterioposterior position of the foramen. We didn't observe any relation between the inferior-superior position of the foramen and the above parameters.

[Incidence of fainting during the procedure of a simple extraction].

The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of fainting during the procedure of a simple extraction in healthy individuals and the probable difference in its incidence and expression in relation to sex and age. Nine hundred eighty-nine healthy patients were examined (491 men and 498 women). From our results it was concluded that the incidence of fainting during a simple extraction is extremely low. It was not found statistical significance between faint and it's relation to sex and age.
